It is AI clickbait.
Dean Smith suggested to UNC basketball lettermen that they didn’t need to contribute to athletics - they’d already given plenty.I guess MJ doesn't care to contribute. How does he feel about the whole NIL thing?
What are the sources for that and do they cover less official money? It is AI clickbait.
There is very little reliable data about where the various schools ranks. None of it is public.
Basically, we are roughly upper middle in football spending and top 5 in basketball spending.
I hate it, too. I don't mind them getting compensated, but something needs to be done about them being able to leave every year for another school. They need to be treated as employees and have contracts like the pros. I think it would be good if the Power 4 schools just broke away from the NCAA and had basketball and football set up like the NBA and NFL, with drafts, collective bargaining agreements, contracts, and trades. Would be better than what's going on now, and at least the players would be more likely to stay at a school for 4 years if they didn't go to the NBA or NFL early.NIL is the reason I’ve lost interest in Carolina sports. Kids used to come to UNC because they fell in love with its traditions, beauty, academics, mystique. Now, it’s all about the Benjamins…for a year or two, then they go elsewhere. What do I have in common with those kids? And yes I do think student athletes should be compensated, but I hate the current system of college hopping and bidding wars.
1. Are your kids great at a sport...like pro potential?I see three on there I would want my children to attend, and then dook which also has a reputation for being solid academically. Priorities are just different.
Not to quibble - but it was 9 championships. Don't forget his two Olympic Golds. All it takes is a few uber wealthy alumni who think this is a good use of their money, or in the case of Indiana just one.
As for MJ, I doubt a guy that won 7 championships the hard way approves of buying them. I pretty much agree with him. People can do what they want wth their own money but if I had more millions than I knew what to do with I'd be helping the poor and trying to cure cancer rather than paying college athletes.
I'm not sure about a draft but I agree that making athletes paid employees is the only path to getting some sort of organized system in place. Schools could put opt out clauses in the contract as incentives. This could help with player retention but I'm not sure how'd they regulate a salary cap.I hate it, too. There’s really no official source or way to get exact numbers of how much each school is spending on NIL. The IC staff have been consistent that we are roughly in the ballpark that Calheel referenced for football and basketball. I trust their word on that more than a random unsourced post on Twitter. What are the sources for that and do they cover less official money?
There are no sources. It’s all rumor, innuendo and guesstimates. What are the sources for that and do they cover less official money?
So people claiming UNC basketball is in the top are just going off those things? There are no sources. It’s all rumor, innuendo and guesstimates.
I have confidence UNC basketball is likely close to top 5 -certainly top tenSo people claiming UNC basketball is in the top are just going off those things?
We put all our eggs in the wrong basket? So if UNC is indeed top 5 in the Nation with basketball NIL collective, this begs the obvious question: Why did we whiff on getting a big to come last year? It couldn't have been about the money. Correct?
