Old people and scams

My 76 years old mother continues to throw away her money on online scams. Me and my daughters have told her over and over again these are scams and they are stealing your money. Yet she continues to fall for them. I don’t know what to do anymore.

And is it Facebook? And is it her phone or did you buy the phone and she uses it?

I’m asking these questions because I went through this w my Mother in just the last couple of years and she was 75 when it started in earnest.
She paid for her phone and pays the bill. I have told her husband and he does nothing about it.

it sounds like maybe she isn't with it enough at this point to have a smart phone?

the internet is a dangerous place.

maybe get her one of those jitterbug phones that can only call people programmed in / 911.

I have no control over that.
Sorry to say but there is nothing you can do. Sounds like my mother. W her it was the beginnings of Dementia which is full blown now and she’s now 78.

I was finally able to get control of her phone which eventually took care of the problem. Without that you have no chance. We had interventions w friends, family, and the Police and nothing worked. She was convinced that the Facebook “celebrities” were really who she thought they were.

Can you get her money in a financial company that has a fiduciary responsibility to not let her take the funds if fraud is expected?
