“We should not be giving Black people the same vaccine schedule that’s given to Whites, because their immune system is better than ours.” —RFK Jr.
He's actually a little bit right. I doubt anybody's done a study on different vaccine schedules between black and white Americans but there have been some pretty compelling studies on the immune systems of blacks and whites including the Pasteur institute.

Black Americans tend to have a stronger immune response than white Americans. That can help them fight off certain diseases but unfortunately autoimmune diseases like lupus are more prevalent in black Americans. Researchers theorize that it's because Europeans interbred with neanderthals before they died out and Africans didn't, And got some of the Neanderthals crummy disease fighting genes.

But this is one of the problems I find with RFK Jr. He reads some things and tends to jump to policy immediately. Maybe we should do different vaccine schedules but it needs to be studied first. On the plus side, advocating for different vaccine schedules is pretty daggum close to advocating for vaccines.

What does this likely portend for things like seasonal flu vaccines, Covid vaccines, MMR vaccines, etc.
I'll tell you the effects already happening in Louisiana. Health care workers are forbidden from recommending vaccines to their patients - including the flu vaccine. Forbidden. Actively working against public health. Good job republicans.

I was wondering about how they'd handle mixed race and imagined something like the paint scanner at hardware stores. They'd just scan skin color and mix it up. That looked too complicated and , after all, we know that they are going to simplify it like gender and it will be white and other.

What on earth? Like, doctors essentially can’t even discuss vaccines with their patients?

The study you cited there is very far from compelling. It has less than 200 participants; there were no controls; and the racial identity was self-reported. In addition, anyone talking about "African" versus "European" is a quack because there is considerably more genetic variation among populations in Africa than between European and some African populations.

Say goodbye to your big gulps and your processed foods MAGAs! No more slim jims and pork rinds for you!
I'd love to see it but I just don't think it's going to happen. Too much money going to politicians from the food industry And not enough demand for change from the electorate.

I think RFK has a better shot than most. Michelle Obama tried it and people made her out to be the devil.

No, he's not a little bit right any more than Trump is a little bit right to characterize all immigrants as rapists and murderers. The data to which he's referring shows some correlations but none (ZERO) of those researchers think their own data supports differing vaccine schedules by race.

Wrong. White nationalist MAGAts made her out to be a monkey with a penis. Those good kkkristian magats.

Wait. Is this true?

Maybe Bobby can focus on the low hanging fruit like getting rid of pharma commercials.
Maybe that's not such a bad idea. Any commercial touting something for an area covered by a bathing suit ... I don't really care to see it. Get those damn Charmin Bears off my television screen and your tenure as HHS Secretary will be considered a success!

Trump is some shade of Cheetos Orange, but what hue is RFK, Jr.? Burnt Umber? Rust Red? Turd Brown? These two jokers need to get their skin tone in alignment.

You didn't read the rest of the post.

You will justify anything coming from these fools. This man never recovered from his childhood trauma like Hunter Biden...just more famous, more burnt out from the drugs, and crazy ALL THE TIME.

I work in vaccine development. It’s not great. Originally we had 3 different phase 3 trials of next-generation mRNA vaccines (seasonal flu, avian flu, COVID) originally slated to start this year. Those are now on hold to get a better picture of the new regulatory environment.

The WHO meeting to determine the composition of the next year’s seasonal flu vaccine is in a few weeks. The FDA meeting is a few weeks after that and typically relies on WHO data to make their decision. FDA almost always follows the WHO recommendation. FDA isn’t currently willing/able to communicate if they will have access to that data or when/if they they will hold the public meeting.

The regulatory uncertainty combined with slashing funds for research and development goes way beyond vaccines. It’s beyond the worst case scenario. China and Europe are going to kill us in pharma/biomedical innovation for the foreseeable future as a direct result of the last few weeks.
