Thought some might be interested and in all sincerity it doesn’t sound bad.

From USA Today:

This Italian village is offering $1 homes to Americans to relocate post-election

Updated 4:44 pm EST Nov. 19, 2024

A rural Italian village on a Mediterranean island is welcoming Americans looking to relocate abroad following the 2024 presidential election.

Located in the countryside of Sardinia, the ancient town of Ollolai recently launched a "Live in Ollolai" initiative

Careful, Trumpers, that might be all y’all’s broke asses can afford after his tariffs are done fucking y’all with no lube! And I hear the Italians have some good socialized healthcare which may come in handy after your ACA coverage is gone.

Awful chummy of you.
Just because we disagree on politics doesn’t mean I don’t want to share great real estate opportunities. Weather and food are great in Sardinia. Think about how much you could help improve their political outlook.

Plenty of dying, rural towns in America if that's your thing. And regardless of the real estate offerings, there are better options than this if you're willing to go through the process of uprooting your entire life.

All marketing, they were offering the same $1 homes a year ago.

Portugal also had some marketing after the election toward disgruntled potential expats.

It's not limited to people who hate trump, maybe you should consider it also.

There are plenty of houses in Detroit that can be purchased for the price of the back taxes.

Ollolai, Sardinia has gone from 2,013 residents in 1981 to 1,162 in 2024; 446 of its 1,162 residents are 60+; 358 residents are 65+.

It’s about as “inland” as one can get in Sardinia and, based on the photos, it’s in a steep-sided valley.

You’re not visiting Sardinia’s pristine beaches with great frequency residing in Ollolai.

Nah, I’m going to stick around for all the winning that’s coming to the US in the next 4 hrs.

So, what happens after the next 4 hours?

Trump fucks the country?

Typos have derailed as well as added humor to so many of my post over the years.

You checked that in the last several years? Property values in Detroit have skyrocketed. Downtown is a damned fine place to be. Tons to do. Lots of upscale food, bars, entertainment. Great sports. Tons of redevelopment, etc...

Googled it because of your post.

There's information on these houses available today.

To be clear these are not houses you can move into, these are renovation projects.

There also seems to be foreclosures available.

I'm only going by what I've read and an interview I watched recently with a lady that has purchased several houses and refurbished them. I don't live in Detroit so I could be completely wrong.

In this article it mentions the Detroit land bank authority still has around 5000 houses available. It also mentions that number is down from 45000, so yes everything is improving, but there are still houses available to refurbish.

To your point these houses are not as inexpensive as when there were 45k available. But if you have the time and money there are still opportunities.

It's good to see the city improving. Thanks for the article.

Other than the weather factor (which is huge), living in downtown Detroit is roughly 100X better than living in Downtown Raleigh right now. More availability of everything, better cost of living, more to do, etc. It's pretty crazy the revitalization I've seen over the last 20 years.

You can literally walk from Major League Baseball to NFL to NBA and NHL facilities in less than 10 mins with 200 bars and restaurants in between.

Used to go to Detroit and environs quite regulsrly for work in the 90s early 2000s. Over a 3 year period I spent a year there. Some of the bad rap Detroit city itself got/has is justified. Like many rustbelt cities it has its problems. And definately don't travel into some parts of town.

Having said that, I liked it there. Many nice people. Crossing 8 Mile? Did it all the time. Never felt in danger even when I went down Woodward Ave close to downtown. Greektown was about the only place to go other than Joe Louis Arena if you were lucky enough to get Red Wing tickets. Perhaps a concert at the Fox Theater. Back then was just a sniff of what they've done with downtown now. I had to go to Windsor to gamble (and buy cuban cigars). Now there's casinos right there. Pistons moved from Auburn Hills to downtown. Tigers moved from Silverdome to downtown. Tigers got a new stadium built down there. So yeah, lots happening.
