Ranzino Smith called a blocking foul on me at Carolina Basketball School that should have been an obvious charge call on the offensive player. He is the worst official that used to be a former Carolina basketball player of all time. Ranzino, if you ever read this, I am still waiting for you to admit it was a terrible call and apologize.
 
Z was friends with my suitemates on 2nd West at Granville. He used to come over and hang out and we would talk shit. Joked about his pretty good high school football career (if I am remembering correctly). Very nice guy.

Saw him four decades later, assuming he has retired, working security in Durham. Had a nice moment reminiscing.

I’m not sure that ‘Zino played football in high school. He did at Phillips Jr. High School, IIRC.

‘Zino was about the size he was at UNC in 8th and 9th grades. Picture a fully-grown man with ‘Zino’s athleticism playing junior high school sports. He was dominant.

In his 9th grade year, Phillips had 6-8 guys on the basketball team who could legitimately play with ‘Zino being the star; and, another 3-4 athletes who could defend and run. They averaged 107 ppg (don’t remember how long quarters were in 9th grade hoops - 8 minutes?). They pressed from the start.
 
I forgot to mention that he also called a tech on me for arguing the call and I had to run suicides the next day because of it.

But I got the last laugh when my team won the tournament at the end of camp.
