With grocery prices weighing on the most vulnerable, a government shutdown delaying SNAP and other support and the holidays just around the corner, I just wanted to pause to urge everyone to think of supporting your local food bank, food pantry or soup kitchen now if you are able to do so.

Part of me feels let 'we the people' feel the full impact of our current less than a perfect union and it's lack of promotion of the general welfare. Until the scales come off the eyes the billionaires (and newly minted trilionaires) will continue to laugh at how they have gotten the rubes to support them.

Working a mobile food bank today at our church who are hosting one in collaboration with a local food bank. Hundreds of cars/familes have shown up, 90% of whom are brown skinned. But of course, that is the idea of the cuts.
Thumbs up to you for the effort, but sad to hear so many need to use the service.

Serious question here - are donations to food banks deductible? If so, I'll give every damn penny of federal tax to those who are more deserving than the nazis in charge of Washington and our red state (SC) shitshow government.

I always do the roundup or pay for care packages at grocery store. Got to do more now. This will be brutal in Robeson county.
Post a link if you have one that is a good way we could try to help out there.

Yes if it is a 501(c)(3) or similar charity. Where ever you make your donation should tell you that.

The word I hear is that soup kitchens and food pantries can get food far cheaper than we might at a grocery store, so it is most effective to give money. The Hickory Soup Kitchen (and food pantry) has a link on their website that takes you straight to their Pay Pal account. Most probably do something similar. Give until it feels good!

Thanks for the information and encouragement, 8992Tiger.

This ^. I usually donate to Food Bank of Eastern-Central NC, but whichever fills the need for you.
