Not sure how common knowledge what an IRB is, but their only purpose it to keep participants safe during human clinical trials. There's no conceivable worlsd in which removing IRBs leads to greater public good.

The IDE Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews and monitors biomedical research involving human subjects.
Under FDA regulations, an IRB is an appropriately constituted group that has been formally designated to review and monitor biomedical research involving human subjects. In accordance with FDA regulations, an IRB has the authority to approve, require modifications in (to secure approval), or disapprove research. This group review serves an important role in the protection of the rights, safety and welfare of human research subjects.
The purpose of IRB review is to assure, both in advance and by periodic review, that appropriate steps are taken to protect the rights, safety and welfare of humans participating as subjects in the research. To accomplish this purpose, IRBs use a group process to review research protocols and related materials (e.g., informed consent documents). The IRB must monitor and review an investigation throughout the clinical study.
If an IRB determines that an investigation involves a significant risk device, it must notify the investigator and, if appropriate, the sponsor. The sponsor may not begin the investigation until approved by FDA.

I think what's most galling is that JD Vance seems to think he's well informed enough to tell the public what drugs, like ibuprofen, are 'necessary, safe and effective.' Who does this pompous douchebag think he is? He has no medical credentials whatsoever. But this is MAGA. Breathtaking arrogance.

They all stayed in a Holiday Inn once, apparently. One of the key points of the whole MAGA movement is that it is profoundly anti-expert, anti-credentials, anti-qualifications. People don't need no stinkin' experts to tell them what to do or what to think! They just need some "common sense" and to go with what their gut tells them. So this is what you end up with - people like Pete Hegseth, who has no qualifications to run anything, end up as Secretary of Defense and just ignore the advice of military professionals and impose their gung-ho macho GI Joe fantasies onto our military. Medical quacks and charlatans suddenly become the administrators and powers in our national health agencies, and medical professionals are fired or driven out. A pro wrestling executive is in charge of the education department. And so on. It's not just that they're arrogant, they're actually proud of their own ignorance, and want to rub it in everyone's faces.

This administration seems to relish human suffering so, hey, why not add physical pain to the economic, psychological, etc. pain that they're already inflicting on the American public.
