Still are today in General...Sports are really anxious to make Carolina look bad lately
 
I haven’t thought about Tom Suiter in years. Didn’t he do a highs school scores show at 11:30 on Friday nights with highlights?

I always thought WRAL was big on FLUFF. WRAL was what local TV News was in that era……..big on personalities and light on news.

I didn’t closely watch a lot of local TV news. It was the ‘70’s and ‘80’s if the TV was on and it was certain hours it was on local news. A good percentage of “local” news were clips of national news…….plus, ridiculously long leads into the weather and 10x-15x the time needed to accurately forecast the news (lots of commercials).

I kinda laughed that Charlie Gaddy (and the entire Channel 5 Team) was regarded as important. He had a pleasantly boring voice and personality……and as Merv Griffin said about TV personalities, “A big head helps……physically, an abnormally BIG HEAD.” Charlie Gaddy had a big head and a pleasantly boring voice.

I’ve never understood the attachment by some to local TV “news” personalities…….it’s NOT news. It’s entertainment.

Which big news stories did Charlie Gaddy break? I remember none.

He made $100’s of thousands a year for 20+ years. He was a pleasantly boring TV personality.

Hope his family is well during his passing.
