My only hope is that TikTok is offering an alternative that is so bad that the Biden administration will try to kill the ban.
We sell to Elon or migrate all your children to Red Note?

I read some Dems are encouraging Biden to extend the deadline for the sale of TikTok.

Saw that some of the scroll zombies are migrating over to another Chinese social media app called Red Note in case the TikTok ban goes into effect.

“The U.S. government said “Don’t give a Chinese company your data,” and the American public said “🖕 😎 🖕.” As the country prepares for the TikTok ban to go into effect January 19, Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu (translation: “little red book,” more colloquially known as Red Note) has become the most downloaded app in the Apple Store. Videos recommending TikTok users migrate to Red Note began popping up over the weekend, with many saying they are making the move purely out of spite.

Red Note’s user base has been very welcoming of what are being called “TikTok refugees” and helping them navigate the app. Developers are also working on making Xiohongshu more English language-friendly. So fear not, you and your personal Chinese spy will be reunited very soon.“

Again, I question if this is a migration of real people, or if this is dead Internet theory at play.
some of both. i know people who are now using red note. some of them understand how/why it doesn't really make sense, some don't.

i've also seen a lot of people on tiktok encouraging everyone to flee to bluesky and snapchat, they don't have the same functionality as tiktok but they aren't controlled by zuckerberg or musk. the snapchat people in particular have reportedly told zuckerberg to kick rocks multiple times and that they won't sell to him at any price.

social media is a pox on our society.

Feels like this is pointedly timed to coincide with the tiktok ban. (DJI is a Chinese company)

I have a DJI drone. Bought it back in 2016 or 2017 before I understood the potential national security risk that they present. Never flew it much anyway. I thought about selling it in the past but decided I'd rather keep it grounded. Will definitely buy American-made should I get the itch for another drone.

Tom was actually a debater at UNC, a really really good one. He graduated a year before I started Grad School at UNC (I coached the debate team as a grad assistant, so I just missed coaching him).
