The shut-up and dribble crowd shows their authoritarianism through sports as much as anything. Have a prominent sports figure submit themselves to the golden calf and it is all praise. Have a sports figure standup for human rights and it is “shut-up and dribble” which is nothing more than “[insert slur] know your place.”

Interesting read about Dart/Trump and how politics and sports have always been intertwined.
I really like that article and agree with it. The only part of it I’ll take issue with is the reference to the U.S. hockey team. That was more of a situation of the FBI director crashing their party. But were they supposed to stop celebrating after just winning the gold medal just because Kash Patel started celebrating with them? I didn’t see the hockey team’s actions as political there.

How about Trump and his unholy fixation on how "attractive" Dart is? Hahaha!
Trump likes his boys as much as he likes his little girls in the swimsuit competition. Ha!
Trump is a pedophile with gay tendencies.

Also: "We all know this was about more than simply appearing with the president of the United States because of the baggage associated with this administration. Dart became a willing member of the political machine, and he made that choice freely."

Dart and Skattebo are a couple of meatheads.
I used to like the Giants… just a little bit. Usually pulled for them in Super Bowls; LT and all that. But now that LT has shown his true colors… and with this clown Dart… I think I’ll root for Dallas or Philly in the NFL East.

there was a little more at play than just patel crashing the celebrations. they fucked up and several of them acknowledged it.

IMO this is partially a result of how right-wing politics and young male culture generally have aligned over the last few years. Lunkheads like Dart may truly believe that they're not being "political" by associating with Trump because, for that segment of the population, Trump is a cultural figurehead as much as, or moreso than, a political figure. He just saw it as a cool way of getting a little clout for hanging out with one of the most important cultural figures to the US - and especially among Dart and his peers. The coding of Trump as cooler and hipper than perceived Dem scolds is a big part of his success with young males in the last election cycle - something many of us warned was happening even as the Kamala campaign did their best to ignore the "manosphere" where Trump was winning converts.

Now, the idea that introducing the sitting president at a political rally won't be seen as a political act is obviously ridiculous. So is the idea that openly voicing support for the most divisive American political figure in history won't cause some division in your own locker room. But I'm confident Dart didn't process all of that. He was just like "cool, Trump wants me to introduce him!" and it likely never occurred to him that it would be something perceived negatively by a lot of Giants players and fans.

Long term it will be important to break the convergence of right-wing politics and young male culture. Not just because I want liberals to win elections, but because continuing down that path without any change is a surefire way to lead to true fascism down the road and will only deepen the concerning cultural trends of young men and women becoming politically separated from each other, which is not a healthy thing for society.

Patel didn’t just “crash” the locker room celebration. He was an INVITED GUEST of the US Men’s team. An invited GUEST, he didn’t crash anything. Like inviting Dracula into your house… they let him in willingly.

Also, they attended the State of the Union address… that’s way over and above a simple invitation to the White House for a Big Mac.
Attending that address was the same, or worse than Dart showing up to support Trump… actually it’s probably worse.

No, fuck Dart and fuck all the hockey players who licked trump’s balls.

not all of them attended the SOTU. but yeah, fuck the ones who did.

Willing to put my level of disgust and loathing of Trump up against anyone...

That stated, I just can't give much of a fuck about jaxson dart and whatever his political views are.

As noted above, dart and skatteboo are textbook examples of dumbfuck meatheads. Nothing they say or do off the football field really matters to me at all.

The hockey thing, given it was our National team and the level of their embrace of Trumpism, certainly dampened my excitement at the time. But even there i just don't have much expectations for Tkchucks and their ilk

Dart is indeed the target of this piece but perhaps the bigger point being made may be lost on some.
“We’re having this discussion on a sports website because sports are, and always have been, inherently political. It’s impossible to divorce the two, as much as you might want them to be separate. We have overt examples like Adolf Hitler refusing to shake hands with non-Aryan athletes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos raising their fists at the 1968 games to stand for black pride and civil rights, and more recently, Russia being banned from international competition for its geopolitical military invasion of Ukraine. We also have more subtle examples, times where athletes used their notoriety and stature to support political candidates or movements. Muhammad Ali stood against the Vietnam War, Colin Kaepernick kneeled for Black Lives Matter, LeBron James came under fire for voicing his opinions on civil rights…”

I don’t care about Dart or give two shits about him either, but I do get the gist of the piece.
