Stand-up Comedians

I thought it would be fun to have a thread where people suggest stand-up comedians to check out. Not the real famous ones like Chappelle and Kevin Hart. But maybe some other lesser known ones.

I discovered Josh Johnson a couple of days ago. I read up on him and he's been on The Tonight Show and The Daily Show. I think his stand-up material is great. Maybe it's the deadpan delivery. But he has some great takes on current events. Here's his YouTube channel with a lot of material he has done.

I enjoyed James Acaster's three-part Repertoire specials on Netflix, which are quite involved set pieces. At the other end of the spectrum, I've never seen an Anthony Jeselnick special that I didn't love, and he's 100% a setup-punchline comedian.

josh johnson has to be one of the hardest-working people in show business. most comics work for months or even years on an hour of material before feeling like it's good enough to record and share, and he's putting out 45-60 minute videos of new, topical, and good work every week. he's a special talent.

otherwise, i liked hannah einbeinder's special on HBO quite a bit, and i haven't yet heard a nate bargatze joke i didn't like.

I like Josh Johnson, but I don't love him. He's funny and talented, but there's something about him that just doesn't quite work for me.

But his bit on the Cracker Barrel rebrand had me laughing until I nearly cried. I'm not sure why, but it hit just right for me.
