Stranger Things season 5

It's crazy how long it has taken them to do just 5 seasons of this series. But we are finally close to the last season, and it looks like each episode is going to be as long as most movies. The trailer dropped today.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons but dropped out after the first episode of season 4 — my husband thought it was too brutal and wouldn’t watch after that one and it was just too big a time commitment for me to watch alone.

The Duffer bros went to school with my little sister at Duke school.

The show is full of little Easter eggs to Durham, almost all the place names and roads are from durham (Lochnora, MT. Mariah rd, tons of others). Plus the "kids" were basically my same age in 1984 and riding bikes around is sort of time machine for me...

That stated, glad they are wrapping this up and it has taken WAY too long.

This took far to long, not sure I'm still interested.

Especially if I need to rewatch any of the previous seasons.

I did like the nostalgia of the time period. I also liked the mall used in season 3, since I've been there so often. I used to live about 5 miles from that mall.

It's a dump now.

It reminded me of South Square Mall in thr 80s.

I'm excited about finally getting to see how it ends. I've enjoyed it so far and I hope that the Duffer Bros are able to bring it all home in a satisfying way.
Me too. I generally struggle to get back into the first couple episodes of a new season of show if it has been more than two years since the previous season. I haven't had that issue with Stranger Things, which is a testament to how the writers build exposition to start each season.

Also, the Duffer brothers next project is, reportedly, the Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub, which is my favorite "collaborating authors" book, and my second favorite Stephen King story, behind The Long Walk (If you missed The Long Walk in the theaters, watch it - it's worth it, and a great adaptation, even with the changes that were made).

I am re-watching ST before season 5 drops so that I know that I remember the previous stuff well. (I'm currently a third of the way through S4, so I'll make it with time to spare.)

The Talisman is a great book and I think the Duffer Bros will do it justice. My favorite King book is The Shining, so I'll steer clear of any movie adaptation discussion on that one. :ROFLMAO: I didn't realize that The Long Walk is based on a King story, now I'll have to check it out (so thanks for mentioning it).

The Long Walk is one of the Bachman books.

I looked it up after your first post and saw that.

For some reason, I've never read the Bachman books. Maybe I should do that someday.
The Long Walk is easily the best of them. Rage is deeply disturbing, and because it is written from the POV of a school shooter (before school shooting was a prevalent issue) it's no longer available, unless you can find an older copy. It is worth a read, if you can find it.

The Running Man is probably the most famous in the collection, and I look forward to the new adaptation, but it's probably in the bottom half of Stephen King's works, in terms of quality (still good, though). I like it most as a companion piece to The Long Walk, in that they both remain relevant as critiques on reality television (while the movie The Long Walk is great, it focuses less on the Reality TV aspect of the story than it should have).

I don't remember anything about Roadwork.

Different Seasons is King's best novella collection (For those who are not familiar with it - it includes Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, The Body (Stand By Me), and Apt Pupil, all of which were made into award winning films, but the Long Walk is his best novella.

I loved the first couple of seasons, especially the first. But it has jumped the shark for me and really lost what I loved about it early on. It's still entertaining enough that I've watched all the episodes and I'm sure I will watch this one if my wife wants to.
