Syracuse Orange
#13 JYARE DAVIS P = 25, E = 80, I = 0, X = 15
#44 EDDIE LAMPKIN P = 100, E = 30, I = 40, X = 70
#8 ELIJAH MOORE P = 45, E = 95, I = 35, X = 40
#3 LUCAS TAYLOR N/A
#2 J.J. STARLING P = 100, E = 20, I = 35, X = 65
#6 Petar MAJSTOROVIC P = 0, E = 100, I = 35, X = 15
#4 CHRIS BELL P = 80, E = 50, I = 50, X = 65
#5 JAQUAN CARLOS P = 5, E = 0, I = 100, X = 50

Coach Adrian Autry Wisdom = 60

Look-In: Syracuse is in the bottom echelon of a far, far too big Atlantic Coast Conference with a 5-8 record (11-14 overall). In modern times winning this game means nothing but losing is disastrous. I miss olden times. Coach Adrian Autry came in when Endless Boeheim retired in 2023 and has a 31-26 record at his alma mater. The bright spot for The Orange (They’re a CITRUS FRUIT!!) is J.J. Starling (18.6 ppg) and to some degree the post play of MASSIVE Eddie Lampkin (6-11, 260 lb, 10.4 ppg, 9.4 rpg). Off the pine will come 6-7 gunner Chris Bell (9.6 ppg). Elijah “Choppa” Moore and one-time Demon Deacon and Raleighite Lucas Taylor start and score at 5 ppg. Both have the capability to score big just the same and are 6-4 and 6-5. Jyáre Davis, rolling in from Delaware, is 6-7 and works the boards hard (5.4 rpg) and can score (8.5 ppg). Jaquan Carlos(#5) is a tough little point guard outta Brooklyn who makes things move on offense and disrupts on defense.

Frontcourt: Sky is the limit for Jalen Washington and Ven Allen Lubin is super-smart. Ty Claude is strong and motivated. James Brown brings the enthusiasm and high thinking.

Wings: The Freshmen Powell and Jackson are Mensa today though low physically. Cade Tyson mirrors that. Withers is fired and smart – this is the Good Withers.

Guards: All Smarts from Elliott Cadeau and All-Star from R.J. Davis. Seth Trimble is also thoughtful and clever.

Overall: A very cerebral Tar Heel squad unpacks to play in Arctic Syracuse this late afternoon. There’s some advantage to the locals in that but Carolina looks to be boosted up by their rising star – R.J. must feel the pressure most acutely. A low emotion arc for Cadeau is somehow comforting and coupled with a sterling Intel, the young man ought to steer the ship away from the rocks today. Trimble is also a thinking feller. Indeed, Cadeau, Davis, Trimble, Washington, Powell, Jackson, and Lubin (add in Brown and Tyson) all have Intelligence Rhythms at 80 or above. “Play Smart, Play Together” is the last two-thirds of Coach Smith’s famous adage – The First Third is Play Hard. There is not any excuse not to do that – biorhythms have nothing to do with how hard you play – or they shouldn’t. Sweating the sweat of George Lynch, proudly earning the floor burns of Steve Previs, or the bruises brought on by Blue Team members ‘taking’ a million charges should be automatic. You shouldn’t be in the Carolina Blue if you’re not dedicated to those things each and every outing. I’m looking for that – no loose balls uncovered – no scrums unjoined – no charges un-taken. This one is Carolina by 7.

Seems like Roy was - at the end - starting to get frustrated with “having to coach ‘effort’ all the time”. Didn’t he say something sort of like that, on more than one occasion?
This idea that you shouldn’t wear the Carolina Blue if you’re “not dedicated to those things”.
Wasn’t Trimble quoted as saying something to that affect after the Clemson game? Almost as if calling out some teammates.
Maybe I heard that wrong or perhaps I’m misremembering. Bound to happen at my age.
Anyway… Go Heels!

Trimble did just that.

Yeah, I thought I saw that quote. Dang! Calling out your teammates... but sometimes that's what needs to happen and sadly we should have had this sort of thing long ago, coming from a 5th year senior. But that sort of rah rah, get in your face leadership just doesn't seem to be in anyone's DNA on this team. And before Stankeylegs calls me out for "blaming the players" - I'm not "blaming" them for anything. It is what it just is... it's not in their DNA and there is no "blame" or aspersions being cast for calling attention to that fact.

The Syracuse offense is a little above average by being average in about every category except 3FG% where they struggle. The defense is average. They don't prevent good shots or force turnovers, but they are a very good defensive rebounding team. Should be a really good chance to get a conference road win and get back on track and start a run.

Need Ian to snap out of whatever it is he's been in lately

Last thing I want to see is him in college, in another school's jersey next season

I haven't seen one screen set except the on ball screen at the top of the key in the halfcourt offense. Everyone else just stands around.
