Terror in Charlotte

Charlotte’s time in the barrel. NC has been fortunate to be under the radar to this point in the immigration enforcement crosshairs. That may be ending.
 
Meanwhile, NC GOP wants in on the National Guard action, Al wit not for areas they actually represent.

 
I live in Uptown Charlotte, and walk my dog at all hours (he’s diabetic and has to pee a lot.) I have no issues and see the same homeless folks regularly. Some know my dog’s name and always stop to say hello and pet him. Most of the crime that gets sensationalized in the media happens well after midnight when the “clubs” are hopping and drunk people have beefs. I lived here in 1984-85 when Fourth Ward was just becoming a thing and the street crime was significantly worse back then. My wife thinks nothing of walking home alone from a concert at Spectrum Center and we frequently are roaming around after a game or after dinner out Uptown. We occasionally get panhandled on Tryon St but rarely anywhere else.

If troops come to Charlotte they will have a show of force Uptown, and maybe go into neighborhoods like Plaza Midwood or NoDa where they think they can provoke liberals. They won’t go out Beatties Ford Rd or to Hidden Valley where more innocent bystanders are more likely to be crime victims of gun wielding teenagers shooting at each other. They will go out to east Charlotte where most of the Hispanic immigrants live and make a show of raiding apartments and job sites.

It will be political theater and accomplish very little. Pat Harrigan ought to call me. I know a lot more about the situation on the ground than he (or Josh Stein for that matter) does.
 
Lots of home construction going on in my neighborhood. Hope Trump doesn’t fuck that up, too.

Imagine they will hit Central Ave from Plaza Rd to when Central ends at Albemarle Rd. Large Latino area. Heart goes out to that community.
 
Have to go to some random cities to make the undocumented population feel that nowhere is safe. I think that is part of it.
 
Not just random cities, but blue or blue-ish cities.
But then again most larger cities tend to vote blue.

I wonder when ICE or border patrol + National Guard will start invading a decidedly red city or county? Surely there are undocumented Hispanics working the fields, restaurants and construction sites in red areas.

I’m thinking they’ll just stick to the blue areas or “sanctuary” cities.

What “red city” is there for them to enter? Pretty much every significant urban area is blue.

I guess they could go to BFE Kansas to harass the cows if they wanted to go to a red area, but that wouldn’t do much.

More seriously, they go to blue areas because the cruelty to those they hate is the point.

And if they continue this into next year, and I fully expect they will, they'll likely hope and try to hold down the vote in those blue urban areas somehow. And sadly their MAGA rural, small-town base is likely eating this stuff up, and it's a dream scenario for many of them, given the long-standing antipathy of rural folk towards city folk.

Yep. Out past the old Eastland Mall area. I went to the DMV out on Albemarle Rd when we first moved back here in 2021 and was astounded at all the mercados out that way.

i think the largest red cities are Oklahoma City or Jacksonville

In this case, I think it's because they know NC is one of the most likely Senate seats to flip next year, so they're trying to change the current conversation as quickly as possible.
 
Lol, pissing people off in the second largest purple state would be a unbelievably stupid move. but they're dumb enough to possibly go through with it.

There is some reason to believe they had kept a low profile in NC because of the 2026 Senate race but with Whatley struggling against Cooper, they may think they need to take a chance and shake things up.

Even those areas are purple, as their counties (the smallest electoral area for which results are available, although both cities dominate their respective counties) were very small Trump wins in 2024.

But, yeah, those are probably the closest examples we could find.
