The Gun Thread

Forgive me if there's already a thread about this. Link if need.

As I stated in another thread, I do not like the mindset of American gun culture. However, we would be arrogant fools to think we do not need guns. The working class, in particular, should always have guns. Well-regulated, whatever that means.

For my part, I have a Mossberg 12 gauge and Smith & Wesson 9mm. I also have an old Mosin-Nagant from my ex-wife's family that's in pretty good shape. Have ammo for it too. I need to go to a gunsmith to see if it can shoot safely.

I'd love to have an extended mag semi (despite understanding the awful aspect of its legal state - which ain't gonna change). But California doesn't allow, so I'm lowkey.

Whatever the case, what are ya'll sporting? This is a good environment, I think, to talk about guns. Because most of us aren't crazy assholes.

Love 'em or hate 'em, doesn't matter. We can discuss that here.

Why do we need guns again?
I definitely understand your question, but I think your perspective likely comes from a sanitized experience of this nation.

Are you a minority? Or working class? Do you live in a rural area where police won't arrive for 30 minutes at least?

How often do those groups use guns to protect themselves?

I truly don’t know.

I don't know either. It's a complicated question. But, we know from our history, that things like Blair Mountain, Tulsa, and Rosewood have happened. We have had pogroms in our own country.

I definitely get you. And I believe most of these weapons are used to enforce power instead of countering it.

However, if you're a vulnerable person, what else do you have in this country?

Don't mean to portray us as the Wild West, but as Uncle Ellis tells Sheriff Ed Tom near the end of No Country for Old Men, "This country's hard on people. What you got ain't nothing new."

My Mosin. I'm afraid to load because I don't know if I can get the ammo out. Does anyone know?

And, yes, enjoy my nice, little sailor bathroom. Sorry, it's the best light in the whole house. Lol.

I got rid of mine right before I got sick. Had them for 50 years and never really needed them. There was a time or two it was comforting to have them. Fwiw, I'm working class and have lived in both reasonably remote and shaky neighborhoods.

I get you, brother. Hope you're doing well and have recovered from your sickness.

I should state that I do not have children. Nor do I have mentally disabled people I have to watch out for.

I understand how such things could affect our perspective on guns. In such cases, probably best not to have at all, given statistics.

I have a semi-automatic shotgun and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Would like to add a few more guns to the collection but they are so expensive and I don’t tend to go to the range very often so it would be a huge waste of money at the moment.

Don't worry Bigs, Utah is trying to create a law requiring children, starting in kindergarten, to learn firearm safety. Pretty soon, the gun while be a dangerous as the butter knife.
This is actually a good point, although I know you jest.

I think all children ought to know how to responsibly operate a gun. Rifle or pistol.

That being said, I realize that, in this country, with our toxic gun culture, that will most likely not be the case with this proposal.

I know it's hard to imagine, but there are alternative gun cultures. But I know that's not likely to take effect here.

You don't need anything more, just like me. But, yeah, it's fun to think about.

What is your semi shotgun? Berretta? I've always wanted a Saiga with extended mag. But I know that's being a child. Lol.
