A tradition unlike any other...

I don't watch golf but I am watching the end of The Masters. Can't believe McIlroy missed that putt to win it and now they're having a playoff.

I had to take the kids outside to play after that miss on 18. Spot-checked my phone during the playoff. After the rest of yesterday afternoon, I just couldn't... My anxiety levels rivaled a UNC/Duke game. Really happy for Rory, though. Followed him around Pinehurst on Thursday last June. Guy's just a world-class talent, and he's human - not a robot like Jack or Tiger.

No way either of those guys dump that wedge into Rae's Creek or miss a 5-footer to win on 18. But that almost makes them boring. Rory is Hercules - godlike talent with a human brain/emotions. Easy to root for and impossible to look away from.

And that shot on 15.... one of the best I've ever seen anyone hit. And 17. And that wedge in the playoff. Both drives on the 18th yesterday. Just gutsy stuff.

Quail Hollow up next. If you believe in "horses for courses"..........

I find golf easy to look away from. That was before the Saudis and Trump took giant dumps on it. My brother who was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic viewer even gave up on it.

Yep.

The 2025 PGA Championship will be the next major championship on the calendar this year and is set to be played in Charlotte, NC at Quail Hollow Club. For those who don't know, Rory McIlroy has been nothing short of dominant throughout his career when it comes to playing Quail Hollow.

Though this will be the second time that it has hosted the PGA Championship, Quail Hollow is an annual stop on the PGA Tour for the formerly-Wells Fargo Championship that is now under a new sponsorship deal and called the Truist Championship. McIlroy has been virtually unstoppable at that course and that event, winning four times at Quail Hollow in addition to a runner-up finish and four other Top 10 finishes as well.

Rory often hangs out and practices at Quail when he's taking a break from the tour. I think his main home is in Jupiter but he spends a TON of time in Charlotte.

I used to dislike him, but as the political views of so many golfers have come out, he's definitely grown on the more likeable side of things.

I also dont watch golf NEARLY as much as I used to - I mean now it's rare and I used to watch it every weekend.

I can't remember how many years ago it was at Quail. I suspect it was when Rory won in 2015. He and Webb Simpson were paired near the top of the leader board in the final round. Webb, being a local guy, had the crowd. They were on 15, the long par five with a dogleg left and the edge of the lake in play. Simpson hits a nice drive middle of the fairway.

But folks I'm not lying to you when I say that Rory stepped up and hit the longest drive I recall ever seeing in a competitive tournament. He easily reached on his second shot. I don't think he got an eagle, but booked an easy birdie. Not only did everyone there know at that moment that the tournament was over, but I think the local love affair with Rory started then too.
