The Michael Peterson Case

Would it be a possible motive? Sure. Did it happen? I don't know. Are you going to send someone to prison for life because it may have happened? There is a very good reason hearsay evidence like this is not allowed.

Here is a bigger photo. I still don't know if that's a murder. I would rely on experts and I would hope that they wouldn't perjure themselves. Note: the black thing on the right side is a chair lift.

The photo I saw was taken from the entrance to the stairwell( on the left). Any chance you have that photo ?

I would put the odds of a man having two wives fall down stairs to their deaths at about 1 billion to 1. But the odds of that happening go up if Michael Petersen is the husband and in the house.
I found it very interesting the documentary was fine in real time. He seemed to enjoy the attention.
The first one wasn't his wife. It was a family friend.

But humans have a hard time intuitively recognizing low probability events with a very high number of tries. Yes its very unlikely that someone would have two women he knew well falling down the stairs but there are 8 billion people on earth. The odds become better that this could happen or an equally unlikely scenario could happen twice to some person in the world.

Its like the lottery. The odds of winning are incredibly unlikely but someone wins every week or so.

Yea. This is winning lotto twice. But there is ton of evidence pointing to his guilt absent the first woman's death.

More than a family friend. Rumor was he was having an affair with her. He adopted her two daughters. I don't remember for sure if the adoption was a financial boon for him but it may well have been.

I agree there is a lot of evidence but there are some plausible scenarios where he didn't do it.

When a spouse dies violently, there is almost always going to be a ton of evidence that the spouse did it. Here is some of the "evidence" mentioned in this thread. Think about it in your life:

-The spouse had a large life insurance policy
-The family had debts
-They would fight
-The spouse lied at some point in time
-The spouse was having an affair. This may not apply to you but about 20% of spouses cheat and about .005% commit murder.

The strongest evidence in my mind was really the blood splatter and when the main witness commits perjury, that's a problem.

I lived near the Petersons and knew them well enough to attend an occasional party at their house. Michael was very hot tempered and needed money. She had a large insurance policy that paid double if she died by accident. (Otherwise Michael could have just told police he saw a black guy fleeing the house- in downtown Durham they would have accepted that explanation). I have also know the medical examiner in the case since we were lab partners on our first day at UNC. She told me the head injuries would have required multiple blows and were inconsistent with a fall. She also said you could find microscopic owl feather residue in anyone's hair if you looked long enough. The owl theory is just bullshit.
This. I am from Durham as well and my parents knew them socially and knew other who were close to them.

Everyone i know from that group of people 100% convinced he is guilty. The evidence is clear other than to those who love conspiracies.

But the rest of us are clear on who did it, as clear as it is OJ did his
