What's the future for UNC and the other branches?

The Puppet BOG is chaired by Randy Ramsey, who never went to college, and stuffed with political shills for Berger and Moore.

Elizabeth City State, UNCG, and UNCA have already come under direct attack.

The School of Civic Life and Leadership has been established at Carolina.

The Foundations of American Democracy Program/Mandate will come into play in the Fall of 2025 (Somehow).

There's more...frankly the Rightists have Higher Ed directly in their sights and have for quite some time.

As you mentioned earlier Lee Roberts is the new Chancellor at the Flagship Never worked at a Univ, Art Popes "special person"

I think they will try to cut costs to reduce the growth in tuition costs and/or reduce the burden on NC taxpayers. They will likely target administrative overhead, under attended courses and majors and likely some liberal arts majors.

I think cuts or at least freezes are inevitable. I think the question will be if they will cut too deep and damage the education.

I don't think Art Pope is looking to kill the UNC system. He sent his daughter there despite having the means to send her to a private. I think he sees things he doesn't like and feels like he has a solution.

Would you estimate that eliminating the Departments of Classics, Religious Studies, Drama, and Philosophy while cutting majors in German and French would damage an institution's potential to provide an education?

Possibly. I don't know.
I think it's almost certain to be a resounding 'yes' for most of those, if not all. Courses and/or majors in those areas may not necessarily have a direct and tangible ROI as far as career path, but they are extremely valuable in helping students to learn how to read, write, think, and communicate analytically and critically. That's where their true ROI resides, IMO, and eliminating those types of courses and majors would have a direct negative impact on the quality of education at an institution.

I sincerly think all they care about is eliminating Depts they think are "woke" . donboscos UNC-A examples of Departments of Classics, Religious Studies, Drama, and Philosophy. And then their old favorite whipping boy-Law-since lawyers sue them a lot or something

Are religious studies considered woke? Really any of those save maybe philosophy. I think a better case might be made for gender studies or Afam studies being considered woke by the NCGA, but I've never heard complaints beyond being a degree that doesn't pay for any that Bosco mentioned.

Full disclosure - those departments field fewer majors than do most. Students take the classes though and they provide a very positive campus presence. ROI number$ aren’t great for them to be sure but those studies have only measured ROIs of students that remain in-state, or not self-employed. Additionally, IIRC, ROI is zero for the time they might be in graduate or professional school (in-state or out).

Those are good ones for sure

Pretty much any program with "Studies" attached to it are under the Rightist gun but especially those that are not specifically regionally designated like Latin American Studies or Asian Studies.

They want to create safe spaces for conservatives. It seems the goal is to allow conservative students a means to not be exposed to things contradictory to that worldview.

Let me rephrase that: they want to create environments where conservative ideals are reinforced and where ideas contradictory to those ideals are presented in cartoonish and easily undermined ways.

COVID and years since then have evidently hit Asheville and some others -even ECU- hard in the enrollment trends

Crazy part is that the Foundations of American Democracy course mandate coming into play next Fall -- BOG ordered that every student that graduates from a UNC System School must take a course that has a focus on The Declaration, the Constitution/Bill of Rights, Five of the Federalist Papers, the Emancipation Proclamation, and The "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" -- they're letting go some folks that have some of the deepest understanding of the Foundations of American Democracy, i.e, Classicists and Philosophers.
