Feast or famine seems to be the new normal. They can use all the water they can get. Unfortunately not on this fashion.
Just imagine how much worse it would be if climate change was real.Feast or famine seems to be the new normal.
Most of them hibernate when temps are below 50 degrees and will die in freezing temperatures. They seem to me to start getting sluggish and pretty rare when high temps are in the 50s, at least in NC. I think I’ve read that Alaska has some nasty ones they remain active in colder temperatures. At what temperature does the Mosquito population "go away"
Gotta be the longest such stretch in my lifetime. Also, this:277 days since RDU hit freezing
1,000 days since measurable snow
Wow. When I was at UNC, we had no measurable snow my first three years (it did sleet overnight every now and then without meaningful accumulation— I waited overnight for drop-add one of those nights — but it had snowed the year before during the ‘86-87 academic year). We finally had an ice storm my senior year. UNC then always touted that they hadn’t canceled classes since the Civil War, so class went on and a lot of people busted their ass and wrecked their car on the ice that day.277 days since RDU hit freezing

Of course last year WRAL predicted a snowy winter and look how that turned out.Gotta be the longest such stretch in my lifetime. Also, this:

Might have to head to the mtns to see any snow.... again.
And even that measurable snow wasn't much more than a dusting IIRC. I think the last snow of any significance was in 2018 and was still only 2-3 inches. I've resigned myself to the fact that it doesn't snow in Raleigh anymore. On the flip side, walk outside during the summer and it's instant ball sweat.277 days since RDU hit freezing

Yes, they forecasted above average snow last winter. I don't think the long term forecasting matters at all. Our climate is so messed up now that what happened in the past doesn't seem to apply anymore. All we need is one good one, though. But I do think it is getting harder and harder to get snow here because our climate is just different now.Of course last year WRAL predicted a snowy winter and look how that turned out.
I had not heard of-or maybe remembered-that ACE thingAll the hurricanes used up all the energy for snow. We need to just drop bombs into the hurricanes to break them up so we can get snow again.
Have seen a bunch of people bust their ass going from south campus toward Wilson / Venable via the west side of Kenan because they didn't think they needed to take the steps.Wow. When I was a kid in the 60s in CH the plows were old school graders-with the big slanted blade in the middle of the stretched out faded yellow machine. That was followed by a flat bed truck with two men with shovels swiping out what we called CH gravel-crushed brown granite I guess it was...Us little farts would then walk behind scraping the gravel off of the hilly parts of the road with the blades of our sleds... the guys on the truck waving at us , smilingHave seen a bunch of people bust their ass going from south campus toward Wilson / Venable via the west side of Kenan because they didn't think they needed to take the steps.
