There goes Shohai Ohtani, the best there ever was in this game.

Struck out the side in the top of the first inning and then led off the bottom of the first inning with a HR. Just that alone is pretty damn amazing. But 6IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 10K and oh yeah, 3 HR’s at the plate. Had more HR’s than hits he gave up.

Yeah, I had a super nerd moment recalling how in Star Trek DS9, Buckaroo Bokai was the last great baseball player before baseball collapsed, so went back to see their idea of great player stats (written from a mid 1990s perspective). Even a sci fi show didn’t have the audacity to imagine a player like Shohei Ohtani. The fictional Bokai was merely and infielder and more of a latter day Joe DiMaggio, with modest power numbers (but crazy batting average) by today’s standards.
