William Felton Russell was a professional basketball player and NBA icon who played center for the Boston Celtics from 1956 to 1969. He was a key player in the Celtics' dynasty, which won 11 NBA championships during his 13-year career. Russell is considered the NBA's first outstanding defensive center. In 1966, after Red Auerbach retired as coach, Russell became a player-coach. He also played for the Sacramento Kings and Seattle Supersonics.
