Honestly I think the country won’t recover inside of my lifetime (I’m in my early 40’s). If we even survive as a Democracy, it will take a generation to correct the SCOTUS and the Bureaucracy that he is going to wreck.
 
Literally fascinating to me that 2 lawyers, with 7 years of formal education and years of practice, actually believe what they are posting. That isn't a shot at either of you. That is sincere wonderment at how you got where you are.

I would love nothing more than to look back four years from now and conclude Trump was lying about everything he planned to do. But for right now, it’s you who are in the position of assuming the guy you voted for is a liar. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I “got where I am” by taking Trump at his word until he proves otherwise. And as I noted in my prior post, the reason I keep hope is that I know Trump is a certifiable moron who can’t lead a pig to slop.

It's fascinating how you claim to be agnostic on Trump but fail to recognize how any of his grotesque shortcomings could dramatically impact the nation.

Yup, his gross incompetence is our only real hope. In 1.0 we were saved by decent people like Mattis, Milley, and Esper holding positions of importance, but no serious people are willing to work for him this go-around so we’re stuck with fools, grifters, and the worst human beings possible as his “guardrails” this time.

its even more fascinating that a poster who acknowledges his interlocutors' superior education and experience would then conclude that they are insane, rather than re-evaluating his own position.
 
I think it'll be fine. Not great but not bad. I was much more worried the first time and thought every little dumb or scary thing was the end of the world but this time around, I'm not going to fall for it.

I'm guessing he accomplishes one or two things I really don't like, one thing I like even though other Democrats don't like it, and a bunch of stupid grandstanding that doesn't amount to much. I'm guessing Republicans are going to get crushed in the midterms and we will see a Democratic president in 2028.

I'm fully aware of his shortcomings, all of them. Yet, I haven't been brainwashed by a media going hysterical for 10 years. You guys over sensationalize everything about trump. There is zero independent thought on the left when it comes to trump. You guys have a need to be fed all the bs you read in the media. You want it to be true. He is not a good person with the morality we all want in the White House. He exaggerates almost EVERYTHING. He resorts to the stick and always forgets about the carrot. But you guys fail to see any nuance or read between the lines at all. He is brash and uncouth. But voters, in part are fed up with the elitist attitudes your side projects. It really isn't that hard to understand if you really want to.

Which is precisely what I said. You recognize how awful he is but fail to recognize how dangerous that is in that position. Read your own description and tell me you don't think that has the potential to do irreparable damage to the nation and the planet. He will, after all, have the ability to end humanity with one temper tantrum.

What does the “elitist attitude your side projects” have to do with the subject of this thread? Dems could be the worst people in the world and it wouldn’t make the next four years under Trump any better.

Trump lies about the things he has or hasn’t done; not necessarily about the things he intends to do.

Because this country is WAAAAY more complex in how it works and in the damage a temper tantrum can cause. This is kind of my point. You really believe trump would get so angry he would start a nuclear war? Really? If so then you really are brainwashed when it comes to trump. The right has already defied him once and he hasn't even taken office. I don't for one second believe he has the ability to end humanity with a temper tantrum, nor do I think he has the mindset to even consider it. You can make an effort to become objective about his actions and comments to see what he is really trying to do and say or continue to be soothed on here by like minded people who want to be angry over everything. Look above the individual and at the issue and his actions. Then be angry or content at that and forget about the individual.

You cannot separate the individual from the Presidency. It is a unique office in that regard. The Presidency is the individual. That is precisely why the Presidency right now is neutered because the person in the office is so diminished in his capabilities.

Donald Trump single handedly wrecked our nation's response to COVID. He cost thousands of lives because of his foolishness. The overly drastic responses in many places were as much a counter balance to his idiocy as anything else. A coherent national strategy would have worked wonders. He did that with the spectre of an election hanging over his head. He has no such constraints this time.
