Trump Administration's War on Cancer Research

Rachel Maddow did a segment on this last evening and interviewed the Times reporter, above. This is maybe the most head-scratching attack by this administration. What constituency might it represent? Is Trump even aware? Is all about dismantling university-based research, and if so, why is private-based research so conspicuously absent from the administration's calculus?

Trump doesn't care about constituencies. He knows that his supporters will never connect the dots. They haven't connected the dots on climate change and hurricanes; why would they connect the dots here. It would require doctors to tell patients, "I wish I had a better treatment for you, but Trump shut down cancer research and so the trials of a promising treatment were abandoned." Doctors don't like to say those things to patients.

Trump's constituency here is a) he hates academics; and b) RFK Jr. hates medical science.

I can't wait until this national nightmare is finally over. What an utter embarrassment for the United States of America.

It's not going to end without decisive action by liberals. Give Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas a choice: agree to merge into a single state, or be sold to Canada. I'm quite certain Canada would be willing to take them off our hands for cheap.

Or create 70 new states and amend the constitution.

Almost all of the MAGA/MAHA types believe there is some miracle cure for cancer being suppressed by big pharma because it’s more profitable to treat cancer (“keep us sick”) than it is to cure it. It’s an incredibly common belief and extremely stupid if you think about it for more than a single second.

So I have no doubt even if the MAGA base were to see this headline, they’d just chose to believe it’s Trump ending handouts to big pharma or ending some sort of useless woke sociological cancer research.
