Trump targets ISIS in Nigeria

Interested on thoughts on here.
Has Nigeria asked for our involvement? Is this a benefit to our nation, specifically? If Nigeria hasn't asked for our involvement, what is our standing under international law?

Kind of. The Nigerian president did approve this strike. The ISIS groups in the north of the country are a major problem for the government. It’s not really an attack on Christians. Those groups attack Christians and Muslims alike. But they are dangerous and the Nigerian government has not been able to control them.

Now, this is definitely another example of the “no more foreign entanglements” president lying yet again. And bombing them on Christmas Day is an odd look. But I see this one as different than the strikes on Iran and the Caribbean boaters.

Yeah, based on what I know, I don’t have any real problem with those strikes. The rhetoric used by Trump and the DoD … err … DoW to explain it is cringeworthy, however. And it is inconsistent with what Trump (or at least his enablers/cronies) seem to suggest his foreign policy is. That said, I would never expect any coherent foreign policy from this administration.

Seems all strikes were sea launched from Gulf of Guinea. That's expensive when the targets are all soft. Wonder why 201 wasn't used? 101 was shut down or at least turned over to the Nigerians.

Why is there ISIS in Nigeria? If they ever do establish a caliphate it ain't gonna be in West Africa. Apparently these ISIS-Nigeria guys make Boko Haram look sane. Fabulous.

I cannot imagine living my life consumed by the goal of "restoring" some sort of 1000-1500 year old relic of history. I mean, that goes for all the Abrahamic zealots.
