I didn’t even know the government is shut down. Hell they don’t work but maybe 10 days a month anyway.

This hasn’t affected my life or anyone I know in the least amount.

I am at the point the whole government Right and Left are all full of shit and worthless to the American people.

That's a fortunate place to be. I imagine many of us here are largely in that same camp. That doesn't mean we always will be or that we should ignore the plight of others who are already feeling the pain. I do suppose you would like to be able to fly again at some point in your life? I am sincerely hoping I can get home from Spain on Sunday and relying on the kindness of federal employees working without pay to do so.

Fundamental Law of Nature #1: Without the Federal government, the most highly organized group with the most guns owns you and your family lock stock an barrel. They can control every aspect of your life. They can kill and rape with impunity.

In point of fact, the federal government has ALWAYS been our "most highly organized group with the most guns". And we've been damned lucky that this has been the case for all of our adult lives.

Go ahead and FAFO and see if the next "most highly organized group with the most guns" to come along is going to treat you better than our federal government once you've gotten rid of it.

Moral of the story: We can always make it better. But we can never do without it.
 
The Passport Office is exempt from shutdowns and working apace. My son submitted his application for his first adult passport (he had one as a minor but it expired several years ago) at the local post office on October 17 and his new passport arrived today.
 
Our kids just lost their medicaid this week, and I imagine our health insurance through the marketplace is going to skyrocket. Really need the Dems to hold strong for healthcare.

Not only is it about to get wild with SNAP going away, but federal assistance for childcare (like Head Start) is about to go, and that is going to be a huge problem for working adults with children in daycare.

The problem is that the current Republican definition of conservative and the classical definition of conservative have never been more diametrically opposed. There is quite literally nothing about the current Republican Party that is conservative anymore. True conservatism believes in limited/small government and opposition to authoritarianism. I’m sure I don’t have to explain to you the manner in which the current Republican Party is pursuing the exact opposite of both of those. At some point you are going to have to face the reality that you, nor your party at large, are actual conservatives anymore. The Republican Party's opposition to equality and protection of human rights (even those with whose lifestyle you disagree) doesn't make y'all conservative- it simply makes y'all small-minded reactionaries who can't handle the changing and evolving world around you. True conservatives oppose everything that this current federal government is doing because everything that this federal government is doing is the complete antithesis to classical conservatism, yet you and the so many others in your party are clapping along like seals while the government politicizes and sics the military onto American citizens in American cities, arrests/detains/deports people without due process, censors speech with which it doesn't agree, supports foreign authoritarian despots, and consolidates power in a unitary executive.
