They (well, for sure Rubio) pretty clearly want to overthrow Maduro. And Trump has long wanted to use military against drug cartels, so scratches a couple of itches. We’ve been building up a sizable naval presence in the region and frankly some of Venezuela’s neighbors like Guyana want to see Maduro toppled.

Is there a "drug vessel"? Seems unlikely. But “the base” has to be fed BS, regularly.

Agree. And if Trump’s goal is to have us stuck in some war in 2028 so he can defer the election and claim another 4 years—which it absolutely is—then this escalation is way too soon. Which proves he’s an even bigger idiot than we all thought.
