That appears to be the high level command from Hegseth. He apparently didn't technically give the command for a second strike, but commanded that everyone be killed.
Curiously, I don't think any of these were so much hands on. They were just the guys at the top.

  • Ernst Kaltenbrunner:
The head of the Reich Main Security Office (RSHA) and the highest-ranking SS official at the trial. He was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and was sentenced to death.

    • Alfred Rosenberg:
As the head of the Nazi Party's racial ideology, he was convicted of war crimes and executed.
    • Fritz Sauckel:
The plenipotentiary for the Nazi forced labor program, he was found guilty of war crimes and executed.
    • Julius Streicher:
The publisher of the antisemitic newspaper Der Stürmer, he was convicted of war crimes and executed.

Turns out this post may also have been part of throwing Admiral Frank M. Bradley under the bus:

Who is Adm. Frank Bradley, commander who issued second boat strike order?

“… According to the bombshell report from the Post, two people with direct knowledge of the operation said Hegseth gave a spoken directive “to kill everybody” shortly before the first missile launched from the Trinidad coast.

The missile struck the boat and set it on fire, with commanders watching from a live drone feed. Officers discovered two survivors clinging to the wreckage after the smoke cleared.

Using a secure conference call, Bradley ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s order to leave no survivors, sources told The Post.

They also said that Bradley viewed the survivors as legitimate targets as they could possibly call other traffickers to come get them and their cargo. The Trump administration has said 11 people were killed in the attack.…”

Adm. Bradley knows better and deserves to be under the bus. The only question is who else deserves to be under there with him.
This. This exactly. I don't excuse him in the least. He absolutely should have refused the order and resigned if necessary. That's what honor and duty look like. And again, this is PRECISELY why it is important to remind those in our uniform that they have a duty to not follow plainly illegal orders.

Pete Hegseth told US soldiers in Iraq to ignore legal advice on rules of engagement
Pete Hegseth told US soldiers in Iraq to ignore legal advice on rules of engagement

Guy who brags in a book about how he orders soldiers under his command to ignore rules of engagement would never, ever command soldiers to ignore rules of engagement.
Then there was his recent speech to all the generals and admirals where he basically told them he wanted to see them start committing war crimes.

Maduro and Trump should just go settle their beef once and for all on Dancing with the Stars. Loser resigns from office, winner controls Venezuelan oil fields.

I was thinking maces in the Roman Coliseum would be a better way to settle this.

I think Super is technically correct (the best kind of correct!) here. But in common parlance the term 'kinetic' is most often used to demarcate the point on the (hybrid) warfare spectrum where you start directly reaching out and killing people. Hack a public transit control system and cripple a railroad ? Not 'kinetic'(even if in the chaos somebody dies). Push a button that directly ends someone's life (without any intermediary means)? Definitely 'kinetic'.

We treat this as an important distinction in the West as observably 'kinetic' attacks cross some sort of threshold and fire all sort of "that's an act of war!" triggers.

But Russia. for example, doesn't think like that. The state of warfare is continuous with diplomatic actions on one end of the spectrum and falling bombs on the other, with a smooth stateless graduation between the two poles. They understand that they can finesse their way up and down that spectrum, and take advantage of the narrow, binary and self-imposed distinction we make (i.e. we're either at war or we're at peace).

Bomb drops, fire ignites. That’s not kinetic?
Not according to ChatGPT.

I think kinetic means that the projectile impact causes damage and creates the conditions for the later explosion. For instance, an anti-tank missile blows up the tank by 1) penetrating its outer wall; 2) thus allowing the warhead to blow up from the inside, completely wrecking the tank. That's my understanding at least.

Now contrast with a nuclear missile. There, the warhead is designed to detonate before impact. Maximum damage comes from an explosion about 1000 feet off the ground (maybe more, I don't remember). In that case, the missile is a purely passive delivery system, not a penetration system.
