UNC Basketball History

I know it well. Little Guatemala coffeehouse run by my man Christian.
Panedaria Guatemateca bakery rocks.

Haven't been back but once really since the research though I have had some of the Guatemalans as students. The new edition tries to bring things up to date with a new last chapter/epilogue. I've got a copy but have yet to sit down with it.

I forgot what a beast Peppers was - on the court.
Highlights from just one game vs #13 Maryland (Nationally ranked #13 Maryland)

Ball movement. Bigs passing the ball. Finishing at the rim with authority.
Old school Carolina basketball. Fun to watch.

1972... North Carolina Basketball Practice before meeting Penn University on March 18, 1972.

In January 24/25, 2000 a twenty inch snowfall crushed The Triangle. Carolina had just lost a home game to Florida State (coached by Steve Robinson and led by Damous Anderson and Ron Hale) and was carrying a Four-Game losing streak and an overall record of 12-8 (3-3) into a Jan. 27 home game against #22 Maryland (led by Gary Williams and players, Juan Dixon and Steve Blake). Off campus fans could not get to the game but students took over the Dean E. Smith Center creating an atmosphere that spurred Bill Guthridge's Tar Heels (led by Brendan Haywood and Jason Capel) to a win. This is the Quintessential Snow Game.

I was there. My girlfriend at the time got me tickets to that game as a Christmas present. The day before the game— and maybe even the day of— we were debating whether to drive from Charlotte to Chapel Hill due to the icy roads. We decided to do it.

Before we went to the Dean Dome, we had drinks at the bar at Four Corners. The bartender offered us tickets to the game, but told us they were really shitty seats. We told him we already had tickets but were curious where the seats were that were being offered. He showed us, and as it turned out, they were right by our seats (way up in the nosebleeds). My girlfriend started crying, feeling bad for getting “shitty seats.” I had to make her feel better. I was just happy to be there.

After drinks at Four Corners, we walked from Franklin Street to the Dean Dome. People were slipping and falling everywhere along the way. The walk probably took at least a half-hour longer than usual.

We got to the Dean Dome and went up to our seats in the nosebleeds. About 15 minutes later, it was announced that everyone could move down and take any empty seats they want. So we moved down and got fantastic seats. It didn’t matter that she got the cheap seats after all. She was upset over nothing. And the game was a blast.

Wasn't there a snow game in 1993, too, when the Heels made an epic comeback at home against Florida State?
