I think Elko is a used car salesman. A&M is too big a job for him.
I agree with that. I think his personality seems like a much better fit for a place like Duke than a place like Texas A&M. I’m not sure he’s going to win big enough at A&M to keep their boosters happy, especially as Texas competes for national championships again, whereas at Duke he’d have been golden winning 7, 8, 9 games a year. He could have stayed at Duke where I think his low-key, blue collar, tough nosed persona would have continue to do really well, and been a hero. They were a Riley Leonard injury last year away from a really big season, IMO.

Oh no...you got me. Oh noooooooo.

Probably ECU but that's mostly because the stadium fills with ECU fans and there are like 40 Duke fans in all of North Carolina. That doesn't mean ECU = Duke. It's just a silly argument. You are welcome to take it back.
I'm not saying ECU=Duke. I said that Duke is not a rivalry football game for us and I used our fan behavior as an example of why. It's not just that ECU brings a ton more fans. It is the activity/passion of our own fanbase that I refer to. The student section is packed for some games. Duke is not one of them. Seats around us are often empty for Duke games. They are full of the UNC fans who own those tickets for other games (such as ECU, State, etc.) People are free to believe otherwise but I measure a rivalry by interest and butts in seats. Our fanbase is not very interested in football games against Duke.

If you think they are a rival in football, then that's great. I just don't think it's a sentiment shared by the majority of our fanbase.

Completely agree.

I think the jury is out on Manny Diaz. I’ll admit that I wasn’t over the moon with the hire but he’s done pretty good so far. I still don’t think we have an ACC caliber WR on our roster.
Maalik Murphy Can’t do it all.

And I’ll stop because I know y'all don’t care about Duke.

As for North Carolina… with everything that happened last week (getting housed by JMU & the will he won’t he resign drama) I thought your kids came out laser focused and ready for a rivalry game. That’s a testament to Mack Brown. Clearly his voice still carries weight in that locker room. It really would not shock me to see you guys reel off four of the next five. Every game is winnable.

Lol...4 of the next 5? We won't win 4 more total. We are a horrendously bad football team.

I like talking Duke football with y’all so definitely don’t feel like you have to refrain. I actually think Diaz was a really good hire for Duke. I don’t think he is some savant coach or anything but he has name recognition, has coached at some of the biggest football schools, recruits well, and gets his players to buy in and play hard. He can definitely win at Duke, IMO. I know that the Cutcliffe era did not end on a high note, but the lasting legacy that he imparted at Duke is that he got the entire university and the donors to invest in the Football program. The infrastructure that they have now- the Yoh Center, the indoor practice facility, the completely reimagined and revamped Wallace Wade, the Blue Devil Tower, etc. raised the floor of the Duke football program considerably in my opinion. I don’t see Duke ever going back to the Carl Franks and Ted Roof lows. I see them being a perennial contender for a bowl bid in almost all years, and an occasional contender for something better every so often when they hit on a good quarterback either in the portal or the high school ranks.

I can already see Pitt's press quarters defense giving us absolute fits given our current quarterbacking and wide receivers issues.

Lol. If you’re being sincere, you must have missed the last few seasons of UNC football. Our fast start on Saturday was an aberration. It’s pretty obvious to our fan base that the team has totally quit on the coaching staff.

I think that's very optimistic. We are heading into another very dark period unless we absolutely nail this hire with someone who both brings his own best players AND crushes it in the transfer portal.
Wait I thought you were the guy who believed Mack was doing a great job. How could we be in such a bad position that it will likely take us more than 3 years to dig out of the hole we are in?

I think the coaching staff quit on the team.

I guess you didn't read all of my posts, or perhaps you just don't have very good reading comprehension. I said it's time for him to go because he can't even recruit his way to 7 wins any more. But yes I am fine with what he did until this year. And we're about to find out why. Some people say he wasted generational talents at QB. Others know we would have been starting Chucky Burnette without him.

I think it’s fair to look at it that way too.

To clarify, I wasn’t trying to rag on our players either. The coaching staff ultimately shoulders the blame when team morale and effort drops this badly, imo.

God, is it already time to go back to Kenan again? Can't we get a break from it all?!?
Don't go, dude. I haven't since 2022 when I finally came to the realization that UNC football is sports masochism and I'm no longer subjecting myself to it. I may watch here and there from the comfort of my own home but I'm largely emotionally and financially divested from the UNC football program.

You don't go from being fine to a more than 3 year hole before you can win 5 games in one year.
