I have a 529 plan for my grandson who has applied to UNC. I have tracked the full cost which includes tuition books, fees, a single room, and an unlimited meal plan. The total cost is $25,000 for next year. That is still a very good deal compared to private schools like dook**, Wake, Davidson, Elon, or any other comparable out of state university.Tuition is a pretty good compared to our competition-But alas, room and board and fees etc is $25,000

Well twice as many out of state kids apply as instate kids. Hike out of state tuition to around 50k and admit 50% out of state applicants, then the 50% of instate admissions might get close to as possible to a free educationOh its a great deal
Just not particularly in line with our constitution which says something along the lines of "Free or as close to as possible'
Kudos to the DTH editorial board for exposing and challenging the current UNC administration's mealy mouth pr campaign
