If you listened to Rubio and didn’t feel positive about what is happening in Venezuela then you were determined not to regardless of what was said. Only thing we haven’t fucked up in a while.

Speaking of Teddy, I've been watching the Ken Burns doc on the Roosevelts, I'm at the part where Teddy took his trip down the Amazonian River of Doubt. Didn't @superrific (or some past moniker thereof) have some connection with a similarly incredible South American boat journey? Something about Herzog and Aguirre, the Wrath of God?

Teddy was much too progressive minded. A little too much at times or maybe a product of his times. He was a proponent of both eugenics and the theory that white people needed to breed more to avoid race suicide, both considered progressive ideas at the time.

Otoh, these are a large portion of the policies his Bull Moose Party supported. Don't think MAGA would love a lot of this.

o that end, the platform called for:

• Strict limits and disclosure requirements on political campaign contributions
• Registration of lobbyists
• Recording and publication of Congressional committee proceedings

In the social sphere, the platform called for:

• A national health service to include all existing government medical agencies
• Social insurance, to provide for the elderly, the unemployed, and the disabled
• Limiting the ability of judges to order injunctions to limit labor strikes
• A minimum wage law for women
• An eight-hour workday
• A federal securities commission
• Farm relief
• Workers' compensation for work-related injuries
• An inheritance tax

The political reforms proposed included:

• Women's suffrage
• Direct election of senators
• Primary elections for state and federal nominations
