U.S. Intercepts Russian and Chinese Bombers on First Joint Mission Off Alaska

Flights reflect growing military and security cooperation between Moscow and Beijing

“… Two Russian TU-95 Bear and two Chinese H-6 bombers flew into the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone, a buffer zone in international airspace, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said. The flights were the most recent sign of growing military and security cooperationbetween Moscow and Beijing. …”

“…
In August last year, a combined Russian and Chinese naval force patrolled near the coast of Alaska in what experts said was the largest such flotilla to approach American shores.

Eleven Russian and Chinese ships steamed close to the Aleutian Islands. The ships, which were shadowed by U.S. destroyers and P-8 Poseidon aircraft, never entered U.S. territorial waters. …”

“…
“An air group of the Tu-95MS strategic bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Hong-6K strategic bombers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force conducted a joint air patrol over the Chukchi Sea, the Bering Sea and the northern part of the Pacific Ocean,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

It added that the joint flight had lasted over five hours and that the bombers were escorted by Russian jet fighters. After completing the flight, the planes returned to their home airfields.

“The activity was carried out as part of the 2024 military cooperation plan and was not directed against third countries,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.”

Ukraine is winning the war of attrition, the vast Soviet era stockpiles are dwindling and Russia has not been able to spin up industrial capacity to even be close replacing losses.

What to do? Oh, I have an idea... Let's plant the threat of nuclear war into the consciousness of everyday Americans so they'll beg their government to force a negotiated settlement that we so badly need, and which we'll toss out the window as soon as we've had a chance to rearm.

Cutting and pasting my comment from the earlier thread on this, since it slipped off the first page...

I've always wondered that given how loud Tu-95 Bears are, could an anti-aircraft missile with special acoustic sensors home-in on the noise? Tu-95's have been in service since slightly after my birth, so I've got to believe the US has had time to dream up a few tricks to counter Russia's main aircraft delivery system for nuclear weapons. But if the US has done so, I could understand that they might want not to show-off/publicize such technology. But I suppose a counter-response would be to just cut the engines until such missiles missed.

LOL at Russian "show of force" by putting warships in Cuba. They ships are there to keep them safe. Where else are they going to put them? The Black Sea?
