The entire statement can be read here but, to me, it seems like a fairly good idea and it's one that most schools/corporations/businesses follow - stay out of politics and, in this case, focus on the fundamental reason for your existence, which is educating students, many of whom have paid a significant amount of money to be educated by you.
If the government injects politics into education, why should schools stay out of politics?

I'm not saying they should stay out of politics. I'm saying that getting involved in politics doesn't always work out well for schools, businesses, corporations, etc, so it's not surprising that they are making the decision to get out.

Why? I mean, they’re pretty inexpensive as is and offer a ROI that matches that of many BS degree programs. Where/how would the money be applied?
Expand and improve key training programs in areas of local need, for instance. I am not endorsing taking those funds from research universities.

Right. We can afford $3B for trade schools if the GOP thinks it's a good idea. Easily afford it. Research university funding need not be affected. But of course, as we all know, the trade school expansion is not the goal and they would probably bait-and-switch it at their first opportunity.

I phrased my comment poorly. I know you aren’t on board with those research funding cuts. I was just curious about what you think should be done with additional funds for vocational programs and community colleges. From what I know, our community colleges do a good job offering things that matter to the students, they are geographically well-distributed and the price for an associates degree is less than one year at the state flagship U. I suppose states vary even more with that sector than they do with their larger universities.

Trump gives away his game so often. Yes, he wants to give money to teach people how to fix cars. That's his aspiration for them.

Hey MAGA: he hates you! He thinks you are pathetic! You think liberals hate you but liberals invest in your future. We don't want to deprive you of opportunities to do something besides fix cars.

Based on my observations at Sturdivant’s Tire on Hwy 54, Chapel Hill Tire in Carrboro, on West Franklin Street, and on 15-501 Boulevard, and Triad Auto in, well, the Triad, fewer and fewer white males want to be auto mechanics……

Over the last 10 years, at those establishments, the mechanics are increasingly or exclusively Latino.

That was certainly my experience in Chatham, as well.

I wonder if the highly paid Mechanics at the big dealerships are Latino? Especially the High end brands
I have no clue ?

Buncombe: I’ve been to three mechanics in the past four months. Two had Latinos as part of the crew. The one that didn’t was a chain.

Hendricks Mercedes Benz in Charlotte definitely employs Latino mechanics, but the service writers who deal with customers face-to-face have not been Latino in my experience. The mechanic sends the customer video of the things that need to be addressed and several of those I’ve received have been from Hispanic technicians.
