What would you do? Supermarket

I asked a couple weeks ago or so about what you would do if in a battle for your life with no arms and no escape. It elicited a number of different responses, many of which I don't think understood the situation. And that's okay. But here's another one for you:

When I was a teenager, I worked for Food Lion. One night, near closing, a guy came in that was clearly drunk. And mad. He was threatening us all if we didn't get him through the line fast enough. (I appreciate the fact he went through the line, I guess.) I was too young at the time and didn't really know how to respond, as a mere bag boy. I couldn't run a register.

Anyhow, we got him checked out. And on his way to whatever hell he was seeking.

But say it didn't work out that way? Say he had a gun. What would you do? And you're unarmed. Be you me as a teen bagger boy or one of the others in line behind him. And you're all unarmed.

I should add to this that, when I was running freight for Home Depot, my manager once told me about an experience in local supermarket. He said that there was some clearly disturbed guy with an axe, and no one seemed to mind him for whatever reason. Said he was just standing by, wondering if he should throw a can or something at him. Until an off-duty police officer came in suddenly and broke the man's arm off. He said he could still hear the crunch.

I have no scientific backing on this but I would assume the overwhelming majority of people with guns don’t want to use it so you just do whatever they want and get them on their way.

When i was 17 I was robbed at gun point when I worked late nights at Taco Bell.

We had a new POS system and I had not yet been fully trained, so I didn't know how to open the register. I was the only employee at the front of the store. There was a regular couple in the dining area eating. Guy walks in and pointed the gun at me and asked for the money. I told him I didn't know how to open the register and called the manager. She came to the front and immediately opened the register and gave him what little money was in the register. He took the money and left.

In this situation, you're probably right. However, the more you do that the more it becomes a threat, so to speak.

I agree.

That's an incredible story, CatTech. I'm glad you are okay. But are you? How has that affected you?

That one didn't really bother me. Pretty young and dumb.

I've been robbed 3 times. Had a gun pulled on me at least 4 times that I can remember.

The one thing that really bothered me and I still think about sometimes is when a coworker was murdered. I've told this story before, so the short version is I was suppressed to take the last pizza delivery of the night, but my car was having issues. I asked the other driver to take the order and he did. He was murdered on that delivery. He was a father of two. The guy that killed him, I believe, is still in jail. He killed this food hard working father for no damn reason. Just to shoot someone.

Also, I'll say about Taco Bell, it's the only food poison stories I've ever gotten. Me twice. Others a number of times. Taco Bell great but my god! Lol. So delicious it's poison.

That all being said, I imagine my jump around like a baboon thing from other thread not feasible here. I imagine this is a scenario where you have to talk them down and hope for the best.

My god, Cat. What in the world? I'm so sorry to hear that. Where was this?

Gastonia, around 1991. The guys name was Keith and we delivered for Pizza Hut.

May 3, 1991 — ... Keith Hilderbrand the pizza hut deliverer who was shot Between the eyes monday during a robbery.

There were a couple articles when I googled that were behind pay walls.

It does appear that the murder was paroled in 2024.

Not nearly as scary as your experience, but it reminds me of the time when my 6yo daughter and I entered McDonalds and approached the order line. There was an angry guy in line packing pistols on each hip arguing with the cashier.

I put my daughter behind my back and we slowly backed out of McDonalds. Fortunately, the only trauma I experienced was trying to console my daughter because she did not get her Happy Meal toy

Our children are of much greater importance. Having a gun pointed at me was nothing in comparison to being in an ICU not knowing is my daughter would live. I'm glad that the happy meal got was the only loss, stupidity with guns often leads to greater loss.

And, I just don't understand people that feel the need to wear their weapons as a routine part of life.

I think the need to wear their weapons is to compensate for the feelings of their sexual inadequacy. Guns are phallic symbols. The more guns you own the smaller your penis.
