I have barely paid any attention to the ads from the shit stains vying to fill McConnell's Senate seat here in KY but one caught my eye and that lead to me paying a little more attention.

Anyway, the one that caught my attention was an ad from a douche named Nate Morris and in it he repeatedly states that he's a Trump man and not a McConnell boy. In the ad he is attacking some other MAGA douche and Daniel Cameron. Cameron is the Former Attorney General of Kentucky and being backed by McConnell or groups affiliated with him.

In case anyone doesn't know who Daniel Cameron is

In another ad attacking Morris, they say he's woke, supports DEI, trans.... They wrap the ad up by saying Morris is full of woke and full of shit.

I would imagine the ads are only going to get worse from here on out.

Trump says Chicago is next for military occupation. Followed by NY or LA or maybe even SF. Don Jr says they should take the tour to Portland.

This is just in the last few hours. I hope people with an audience start sounding the alarm that elections as we’ve known them aren’t going to take place next year. Dems were caught unprepared as the trump administration blitzed them destroying years and decades of work in just a few months.

I haven’t seen anything yet that looks like dems are preparing for the fight that coming. It’s coming though.

There is no fight coming. This nation's experiment with Democracy will die with the same whimper that has heretofore been exerted.

We had a president suspend habeas corpus...and that president is often considered the greatest, most consequential president in our nation's history. The country will endure as will our government. The country won't go unscathed but suggesting the USA's "experiment with Democracy will die..." is just hyperbolic nonsense.

I'm not sure what you expected any party to do in this situation. The GOP controls all branches of the Federal government. Biden and his administration (and by extension Harris and the Democratic Party) warned of this possibility as early as 2020. Trump encouraged mob violence against the Capital. He was part of a conspiracy to overturn the 202 election using fake electors. The American people voted for this government regardless. The Democratic Party wasn't unprepared - they were powerless to do anything to stop it. Their best bet now is to publicize all actions of this administration and hope the electorate votes as many out as possible in 2026 and elects a new regime entirely in 2028.

You are free to believe that. I am free to believe you are wrong.

Polemics and hyperbolic "beliefs" are one of the paths that brought us here. So, you are "free to believe that" - but you are contributing to the very thing you seem to fear with this nonsensical "belief."

I have said this many times before, but continue to believe it's true: Dems and anyone else resisting this shit show of an administration are better served by focusing on the terrible and dangerous things the administration is currently doing, rather than making doomsaying predictions about what they are going to do in the future. Because when you say "there won't be real elections in 2026"then anything short of North Korean-style "elections" where the ruling party wins like 90% of the vote will make it feel like no big deal. The thing to be concerned about is Republican efforts to suppress votes through eliminating polling places, forms of voting, etc, not that the army is going to be standing there at your polling place making sure you vote R.

I'm also not sure it's really true that Dems were "caught unaware" by what the Trump admin is doing - the vast majority of it was described in the Project 2025 handbook. It may be true that Dems have been surprised in some instances about how much the Supreme Court has allowed the administration to get away with.

I agree with your assessment but the key word is focus. Now and the future don't have to be mutually exclusive. Yes, most attention need be paid to the present depravations but there should also be warnings about the logical progression of horribles. It's a matter of proportion. Basically, "now" is the melody and "slippery slope" is adding commentary on the drums.

If you don't talk about the slippery slope at all, it might be hard for Americans to appreciate the present horribleness. As we've seen, too many Americans in 2024 were thinking, "what bad things would really happen if we go balls-out deporting people." They need to be told, "it could happen to you, and will happen to you." But you are right, the slippery slope loses its persuasive power if too casually invoked.

Problem: doom-saying gains attention. It's hard to keep people on message when there is money and fame waiting for those who deviate.
