I am appreciative that he will vote no.

But it is insanely frustrating to me that Pubs can't vote against extremely partisan redistricting plans because they're a blatant violation of fair elections, but they can only seem to do so when they are somehow personally affected by something terrible that other Pubs do.
I wonder if this guy had been fight the war on wokeness.

Yep...always gotta be a personal offense to them. See Marge as an example. None of what Trump does or stands for is offensive to her, but going after her on social media...well thats a bridge too far.

Another House Republican is calling it quits from Congress

“… Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas), one of President Trump's most steadfast allies, said Saturday he will retire from Congress rather than seek reelection in 2026.

… Within hours of Troy Nehls' announcement, his identical twin brother, Trever Nehls, said he plans to run for the seat.…”
Dude, they were so close to an 80s sitcom set in the House of Representatives.

And yet I'll bet a large majority of MAGAs in that district absolutely believe that she's not a Christian. Most of them have convinced themselves that one can't possibly be a Democrat and a Christian. I'm sure they'll look at this and say that she's just faking it or doesn't get what Christianity is really about (hating gays and transgenders, hating immigrants and minorities, regularly doing in private what you preach against in public, etc.)

To be fair, I have firmly convinced myself that one cannot be a Republican and a Christian.

This is a Trump +22 district. If it performs in line with other similar special elections this year, Van Epps will win comfortably but by maybe 10 points …

Tennessee congressional race becomes unlikely test of blue wave

“… Even if Behn doesn't win the race ‒ something that would have been unthinkable a few weeks ago ‒ a defeat by single-digits could signal major trouble for Republicans in the 2026 midterms.

… In response to a tighter-than-expected race, the main political action committee linked to Trump, MAGA Inc., has spent more than $1 million to boost Van Epps, with millions more coming from PACs tied to the Club for Growth and other conservative groups. The Democratic-backed House Majority PAC last week dropped a $1 million ad buy in the race.

… Before she was elected to her Nashville state House seat in 2023, Behn burst onto the political scene as a a progressive activist. She was forcibly removed from Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee's office in 2019 when she and others staged a sit-in to demand the resignation of a Republican lawmaker accused of sexual assault. She was also booted from the House chambers for interrupting proceedings.

In her congressional race Behn has leaned into a similar affordability theme that carried Democrats in the off-year elections, highlighting her support to end the state's grocery tax and campaigning on lowering health cost. She has embraced a pragmatic slogan: "feed kids, fix roads, and fund hospitals."…”

Tomorrow there will be a special election in a Tennessee Congressional district that Trump carried by 22 points.

If the Dem wins that will be a shocker, but if the Dem loses by single digits that would be a big ass canary in the coal mine 😜

“… The Trump-backed Van Epps, a West Point graduate and former lieutenant colonel in the Tennessee Army National Guard, is a former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services.

Van Epps has touted his endorsement from Trump and committed to "advancing President Trump's America First agenda." It's a strategy that typically works in districts that voted overwhelmingly for Trump. However, the Emerson College poll found Trump's job approval is suddenly underwater in the district, with more voters disapproving of his job performance than approving by a 49%-47% margin.

… Nathan Gonzales, who runs the nonpartisan election handicapping service Inside Elections, said it’s likely that the Behn overperforms but unlikely that she wins based on how Democrats have performed in other elections this year and the margin that Trump carried the district.…”

For reference, in two special elections in April in two ruby red Florida House districts that were Trump +37 (1st) and Trump +30 (6th) to replace Mat Gaetz and Mike Walsh, respectively, the Republican candidates won easily but in each case with a +14 margin. Trump’s approval rating has dropped significantly since then but still, given that Van Epps has no known dead girl/live boy issues to distort the outcome, probably Van Epps +5 is the most realistic best case margin for Dems.

"Hates Christianity and Country Music", lol. Given that the themes of traditional country music songs are often about getting drunk and brawling, hanging out in honkytonks with friends in low places, and unfaithful husbands and straying wives, I'm not so sure that those two things really go together. Not that most MAGAs would notice the difference, given how warped their view of Christianity has become. Still, it's a sign of just how worried GOPers are about this race that Trump is ranting about it so much on Twitter. I seriously doubt the Democrat will win, but as others have said if she comes within single digits in a heavily Trump district that's not a good sign for the GOP nationally next year. Although I'm sure if the Republican does win, even by a much smaller margin then would normally be the case, Trump will still brag about it as if it's the greatest victory ever.
