“Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Mr. Nadler said, adding that a younger successor “can maybe do better, can maybe help us more.”

Good for him. He probably should have retired even earlier, but at least he's got enough sense and feeling of responsibility to voluntarily hang it up so a new generation can get its chance. If only other Old Guard members were as willing.

LaVon Bracy Davis won the 40th in 2024 with 67.5% v. 32.5%; 42,909 votes to 20,674.

In 2022, Davis won 65% v. 35%; 27,920 to 15,040.

So, RaShon Young ran 10% points better in a special election with just under 10,000 votes cast compared to Davis in 2022’s off-year election with barely under 43,000 votes cast.

In Senate District 15, there was no general election in 2022 (Florida state senators hold 4 year terms) because the Democratic nominee ran unopposed. The Democratic nominee in 2022, Geraldine Thompson, died earlier in the year, thus causing the special election.

I haven’t a clue what to read into two special elections in two overwhelmingly Democratic districts. I think they were the only legislative special elections in the state.
