2025-2026 NBA Thread - Portland HC Chauncey Billups, Miami G Terry Rozier arrested for gambling.

Chauncey Billups made at least $107 million as a player in just NBA salary. He likely has made $10+ million coaching the Trailblazers.

Either these guys are exceptionally stupid with their money or greedy as hell or both.

Wow really? Still going after illegal poker operations?

Now this I have a different opinion on than sports betting. I personally think it's laughable that sports betting - which I find to be far more insidious, addicting, and bad for society (and not to mention more predatory on the part of whoever is running the book) - is legal while poker is not.

I couldn’t care less if people gambled on sports by being in Vegas or calling their bookie or even going to a casino in any number of states where gambling is legal now. But, I absolutely hate how they have shoved online betting into everything with sports now. If we had a competent government, it’s one of the first things they should get rid of. It’s destroyed so many lives.

The John Oliver piece on sports betting was good.

I represented a client several years ago who ran an illegal poker operation, though it was really a tax case (failure to report his gambling proceeds/proceeds from the operation). There were some professional athletes who would come and play. None of them ever got charged with anything, though.

Have no issue with sports betting in person or online or using an app. Do not agree with athletes sports betting due to the influence they have on the games. I’m conflicted on athletes betting on games that are outside of their sport.
