I used to enjoy reading those Dave Barry "Year In Review" pieces that he always did and which were syndicated nationally. But over the past decade the news (and reality in general) have gotten so bad that I stopped reading them several years ago, because no matter how funny or sarcastic they were about the year's events they can't even begin to describe how awful things actually, and I didn't find most of what he wrote very funny anymore. Or to put it another way, it's the same thing that many have said about The Onion these days - how can you possibly top in fake headlines or a year-end review of events what is happening in real life?
