Felony usually means trafficking, doesn't it? Not just simple possession.

Nope. Simple possession can be a felony depending on weight and/or drug type. In NC, possession of 1.5 ounces or more of marijuana is a felony. Simple possession of most other illegal drugs, regardless of amount, is a felony.
