Your comment sparked a memory. IIRC, the girls BB team had six players per side. Two centers that stayed on the offensive end. Two forwards that stayed on the defensive end. And two rovers that played both ends.
That’s how I remember it. My mother played high school basketball in the late 1930’s and they had three guards and three forwards and no players were permitted to cross the center court line. The later addition of rovers turned out to be a transitional step to allowing all players to play all over the court, just like the boys.

Kamala Harris raised a huge chunk of money for none of it to matter. Democratic donors look at that hopelessness, combined with general inaction by the Dems as opposition (and I know that is not fair in a system where the minority party can do little and the majority party doesn't follow the law....) and the donors look at their rising bills vs the party that seems to be a money pit and choose the former.

There's a reason why Trump 2.0 has been using the full power of the federal government to bully and threaten and intimidate corporations and individuals, and it's to create situations like this - Democrats are no longer able to match Republicans in terms of fundraising as their usual sources dry up due to not wanting to piss off the Trump administration. It's the same reason that most media outlets that they don't control outright insist on bosiding everything even when that's not accurate - they're simply scared of pissing off Trump and his minions and having them come after them with the full force of the federal government. And it's likely just going to get worse as we move deeper into Trump 2.0.

1. Agree about what has happened so far. In short, donating to Trump is an astonishingly good investment, whether you’re a billionaire in Detroit who wants to fuck over Canada or a child predator seeking a pardon.

2. I’m not that worried about the money going forward. The party out of power is always way behind at this point, but money almost never turns out to be an issue when the bills have to be paid. This election will be about a lot of things, but I’ll be shocked if campaign funding makes a big difference.

“… Instead, during her 11 months as the de facto leader of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Lake has done profound damage to America’s foreign broadcasters, and to America’s ability to communicate with the world. USAGM runs Voice of America and gives grants to, among others, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, and the Open Technology Fund, which helps people access information in places including Russia and Iran. During her tenure, Lake has ceded influence to Chinese and Russian state media all over the world, as their broadcasters have taken over slots from canceled U.S. programs. She has hampered the U.S. government’s ability to inform foreign audiences in times of crisis. She blocked RFE/RL from using USAGM’s transmission equipment, which meant that during mass street protests and an internet blackout in Iran recently, the broadcasters’ Persian-language service, Radio Farda, had to rent from commercial contractors. Voice of America’s Spanish-language service, which once reached tens of millions of people in Latin America, was unavailable during the U.S. military’s intervention in Venezuela because it had been shut down months earlier.

… Yet if Lake’s intention is to win Trump’s favor by broadcasting conspiracy theories, she is failing at that too. In October, she was spotted waiting in a White House lobby, hoping to see Trump, according to two GOP operatives. “Kari has been here for hours,” a White House aide told one of the operatives that day. “She’s going to run, and she’s asking for the endorsement.” Lake, who was rumored to be mulling a run for Congress in Arizona, eventually shared her pitch with a low-level aide who conveyed no enthusiasm for a third Lake candidacy, the same person said. The other Republican operative offered a similar account.…”

As incompetent as most of his cronies but to thirsty for Trump.

The Ohio Senate race is one where former Senator Brown could flip this GQPer held seat.

I humbly suggest that the Brown campaign create an ad that informs the voters about this.

One of the few truthful things that Trump has said ...

During a visit on Fox& Friends back in 2020 Donald Trump admitted that making it easier to vote in America would hurt the Republican party.

Back in 1980 a conservative republican party leader, Paul Weyrich, was even more direct...

“I don't want everybody to vote... As a matter of fact, our leverage in the election quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.”
― Paul Weyrich

GQPers know that they are a minority party, and they know that they can't win if voters are allowed to vote.

Voter suppression and voter intimidation are the only tools they have to maintain minority rule.

Kent,

One of the reasons I am running for the United States Senate against Susan Collins is that I am sick and damn tired of watching Democratic politicians talk about fascism – and then not acting like it’s what’s happening right now in America.

I firmly believe that we are looking at an administration and a politics on the Republican side that is not interested in democracy anymore. It is only interested in consolidating power to protect the rich and corporate interests. Which, quite frankly, is the definition of fascism.

Come November, whether we are in the streets to protect our democracy or knocking on doors to win an election, the starting point is the same: Organization and restoring power to the people.

A lot of folks are concerned right now. They’re scared for the future of our country. And we should be. We need to be prepared for the worst outcomes where Donald Trump sends ICE agents to polling locations or seizes voting machines or ballots or worse.

The only way we’ll be able to fight back against that kind of thing and win, though, is if we’re organized. And that doesn’t happen overnight. You have to build toward an ability to resist. And that is what we have been doing since day one of this campaign.

I’ve seen Democratic campaign after Democratic campaign try to go up against Susan Collins and the Republican machine – spending hundreds of millions of dollars on TV ads and so many mailers that you can hardly open your mailbox some days.

None of them were successful.

So from day one, we’ve been investing in organizing. We’ve opened offices, hired field staff… We’ve recruited over 12,000 volunteers across the state, who are already knocking on doors, making phone calls, and talking to their neighbors about what’s going on in our country and how we fight back.

Don’t get me wrong. We’re still going to run some TV ads and send some mailers – we can’t give up on reaching voters who aren’t paying as close attention to politics as you and I are. But the heart of this campaign is people. It was our focus on Day 1, and it’s going to be our focus on Day 441.

This is hard work. It takes a lot of people’s time, their energy, and their money. Your time. Your energy. Your money. But it is worth it.

I fought for this country. I believe in this country. I will defend this country.

I am honored and humbled to have you alongside me in this fight.

In solidarity,

Graham Platner

This guy talks the talk and is walking the walk.

I’m sure he will. He’s already using it for fundraising, and I’m sure this is an angle that scares the shit out of Husted. Actually it probably scares the shit out of all Ohio Republicans, since Leslie Wexner has been a huge contributor to Ohio GOP candidates for years. The Sherrod Brown campaign just connected those dots to find a campaign issue that will resonate with some Republican voters.

As a longstanding contributor to Sherrod Brown, the excerpt below is from an email I got this week.

“farce,

We always knew Jon Husted could be bought, but this is especially appalling.

Here are the facts: New reports reveal that my opponent, Jon Husted, has taken 10x more money than any U.S. Senator from billionaire Leslie Wexner. Wexner is a longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein and one of his top co-conspirators.

It gets worse. Husted didn’t just take Wexner’s money.

When the Senate had the chance to release the Epstein files and provide accountability for the victims, Husted voted against it.

Wexner’s most recent donation to Husted came just two months before that vote. You do the math.

It all makes me sick to my stomach.

Ohioans deserve transparency. We deserve accountability.

We deserve a senator who fights for working people, not one who protects the rich and powerful. Not one who protects the Epstein class. Not one who protects pedophiles.

I've spent my career holding powerful interests accountable – and I'm fighting as hard as I can to unseat Jon Husted and prove that working people, justice, and accountability matter more than protecting billionaires.

But no one person could win this fight alone. I need you, farce.

If you believe the super wealthy shouldn’t get special treatment – and the truth shouldn’t be hidden –
I’m asking you to chip in $50 or whatever you can today to help us flip Ohio and bring accountability back to the Senate.
