Ugh. I mean, there's nothing in that post that is objectionable, so retweeting it would be no concern at all but for the author. And just because a person is a holocaust denier doesn't mean they are wrong about Middle Eastern wars.

For me, the bigger question is why they were following that account, and/or why they decided to retweet that instead of what is surely hundreds of other similarly phrased tweets.

Was that on twitter or bluesky, the original tweet? If it was on twitter, maybe the lesson is: get the fuck off twitter.
The original has since been deleted, but was on twitter and yes, getting off twitter is absolutely the right move

It’s not that complicated. If you’re retweeting a holocaust denier for affirmative reasons on any subject, you’re fucking up.

Yeah, its the social media equivalent of saying, sure Hitler was bad about some things, but ...
To be fair, I had no clue who that guy was. Do we know that Platner did? I don’t really do the Xitter thing. The tweets I see are the ones that get posted in other places like here. If you retweet something, does that mean you were following the original tweeter? Or could it just mean that you just happened to see the tweet? In other words, is it possible that he retweeted that without really knowing anything about the guy?

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said that the lesson is to get off twitter. Maybe they had no idea who he was. If you're retweeting random X accounts there's a high prob of amplifying some asshole.

Received 3 political mailers today from two left-wing organizations:
  • AmericanPrioritiesPac.org
  • LocalAccountabilityPac.org
One large postcard (8.5” x 11”) is anti-Valerie Foushee, our incumbent Congresswoman.
  • “The same corporations that support ICE back VALERIE FOUSHEE…..”
The other two large postcards (6” x 11”) attack Sheriff Charles Blackwood.
  • Lots of “alleges”
  • “Charles Blackwood…WRONG on ICE. WRONG for ORANGE COUNTY.”
I really don’t care for how leftists attack Democrats.

I already preferred Talarico over Crockett in Texas, but this definitely made me feel even stronger in that regard:

There are few traits I find more distasteful in politicians than smearing journalists because they’re mad the journalist once wrote something less than fawning about them.

I apologize for the twitter link, but brilliant ad.

That is a great ad. She’s overselling the “I’m poor like you” bit - her partner Ben Collins surely has plenty of money to help her get health insurance - but her progressive ideals are genuine.

Is he her partner or spouse? If partner, his money is not her money.

Tuesday night will be interesting in both Texas Senate races...

Can you post the original Stew Peters tweet and the Platner or the "someone " who runs his campaign retweet ? Depending upon whether he did, that would certainly concern me. If you can't then I will just put your post in my " I don't believe you " file

I have no problem with any of these during the primary.

Yeah, that's why I said she's just "overselling" things a bit on that point, not that she's lying about it. I understand that his money is not legally her money. But when two people live together in a committed relationship they usually blend their finances to some extent, and certainly one of them does not usually let the other go without health insurance if they can afford it.

There's a faint whiff to me of Mitt and Ann Romney trying to characterize the early years of their marriage as just barely getting by in crappy apartments, when they (at least Mitt) had extremely wealthy and powerful parents who were clearly willing and able to help. Mitt's parents' money didn't legally belong to him and Ann yet, but clearly they weren't really struggling to get by and weren't going to fall into poverty no matter what they did.

(Note: Kat is a million miles away from Mitt Romney, personally and politically, in basically every respect. I am just talking about this one particular element of her ad that I thought was laying it on a bit thick.)

just a reminder that politics ain't beanbag...

Leftists attacking Democrats? Brother, this is a Democratic primary. It’s a Democrat attacking a Democrat. What else are primaries for? Should the incumbent have blanket protection from challenges?

I have no comment on those mailers, but Democrats should use kid gloves when attacking other Democrats. I mean, yes, there has to be accountability, and negative campaigning is just American style, but ideally Dems would attack Dems for being insufficiently virtuous, rather than actually bad.

But like AI, there's really no chance of it happening that way. It's a massive collection action problem that would require regulations. It's not as if mainstream Dems wouldn't go after leftists if behind, or even if not.

I could be wrong, but I can't remember hearing any candidate saying, "I wish I'd not have gone negative," whereas I've heard many say, "I should have gone negative sooner." And with that incentive structure, it's all but guaranteed.
