James Talarico is a former 6th grade teacher. So, how long before the GOP digs up someone who says Talarico sexually molested her when she was in the 6th grade? Remember, we are talking about Texas Republicans. I'm thinking the Texas GOP had their "witness" ready to go before the primary but decided to hold her in reserve until around the middle of October. As a rule, Republicans are absolute amoral asshats. Texas Republicans look at what the GOP does in other states and in Washington and say, "Hold my beer." Thing is, this hypothetical abuse victim, probably will be an actual abuse victim, just not at the hand of James Talarico. And whatever problems this hypothetical abuse victim has now, they will be dwarfed by what happens after the Texas GOP convinces her to lie about who abused her. Keeping lies consistent is always a much harder job than keeping the truth straight. While the "truth" can be messy and nuanced, the urge to "improve" on lies is almost irresistible, once facts arise that contradict the penumbra of the lies.

I think this hits on one thing that made Trump successful in 2016 (not so much anymore)...he was essentially a blank slate onto which anyone could project their own thoughts and feelings.
I agree, except I think it's still true. Nobody could seriously believe that Trump was an anti-war person, but they lapped it up anyway. Nobody could seriously believe that he was trying to do the best thing for the "American worker" but they lapped it up anyway. Nobody can possibly think Trump is the most transparent ever but they lap it up anyway.

6. Make lying about "bone spurs" to avoid military service a felony with no statute of limitations.

7. Make passing a mental fitness test, administered by an impartial third party a requirement before filing to run for every federal elective office and appointment to the US Supreme Court, with the test being re-administered on an annual basis.

8. Require all bodily injuries resulting assassination attempts to be investigated by a non-partisen, third-party panel of medical experts.

9. Require all assets owned by or compensation given to the President, VP, Supreme Court justices, Speaker of the House, and President pro tempore of the Senate to be placed in a blind trust for the length of service in the designated positions.
