"Prediction markets aren't friendly to the GOP's chances for holding the House," said Kernen. "Do you think there's any way that your party holds on in November to the House?"

"Absolutely," said Scalise. "And look, it's a path that is focused on turnout, number one, and delivery. What we've delivered to finally start turning around this mess that we inherited a year and a half ago. People will remember that two years ago, we were paying almost $6 a gallon for gasoline. Right now it's in the $3s. Obviously we've seen a jump with the Iran conflict, but it's still"

"When were we paying $6?" Kernen cut in.

"Two and a half years ago," said Scalise. "We're over 30 percent below where we were two years ago ... it's still going to go lower when Iran gets resolved."

"That wasn't the average price," said Kernen. "We are actually above where we were then. Two years ago the average was $3.65."

She held no town halls or campaign events early. I'm guessing she did not take Platner seriously and thought she could save her DNC resources for Collins. Unfortunately for her, Platner started early, created a volunteer base of 5000, and has held SRO town halls all across the state.

It wasn't a lack of resources; it was a lack of going out and engaging with Mainers. The primary is June 9th and latest polls show her trailing by 20 points. I think she realized it was too late to actually begin campaigning even with her DNC resources.

Platner will get plenty of DNC money as the party tries to flip an incredibly important Senate seat

I'm pretty sure Schumer wanted Mills from the get-go and funneled DNC dollars to support her campaign. The concern that Schumer had about Platner was/is that he is a young progressive dynamic candidate and not a milquetoast Dem that Schumer prefers ( see Jackson v Beasley in NC )

I'm pretty sure he will not give Platner all of the money wants or needs because Platner has been running as a change candidate and has been critical of Schumer and the old guard for not being assertive in calling out the danger of Trump's advancing move to establishing an autocracy.

But I hope you are right and I am wrong. We shall see in the coming weeks. Collins has taken out a 2 million ad buy to attack Platner. Will Schumer match with 2 million for Platner ?

This level of hate for the majority leader makes no sense to me. The shutdown in November completely changed the narrative of American politics and Trump's approval rating right now owes in part to Schumer's leadership. So I don't know why this type of criticism is warranted.

As I have suggested, Beasley was the right choice for 2022. The Dems looked as though they were going to get murdered in the mid term, and why would you sacrifice a promising candidate in a terrible environment. True, politicians can run more than once, but the record of candidates who have lost an election is dismal.

It was only after that summer and Dobbs that the Dems regained some footing. But by then the choice had been made.

Schumer was backing Mills because she was the less risky candidate, not because he has a problem with Platner (though Platner's tattoos might not have impressed Schumer) but because Platner's campaign could self-destruct. Even now there are people on this board worried that he's going to be a Fetterman or Sinema type.

Generally speaking, you do not want to charge into one of the most important Senate races of the last two decades with an oyster farmer as your candidate. That is considerably less than ideal. So Schumer was managing risk. Now that Platner seems not to be faltering, Mills withdrew. Platner will have all the money he needs.

In fairness, she was also the governor. Not as easy for her to cris cross the state.

If she has been so busy governing the state that she can't campaign or even run some ads, then why did she enter the Dem Senate primary in the first place ?

As I posted before, she thought she would have easy sailing through the primary, and wouldn't need to campaign against Collins until the fall.

Do you know that?

Because I see her entry as more of a safety backup in case Platner face-planted. That's why she didn't enter until fairly late.
