The loyalist members of King's College packed up and moved to Nova Scotia in 1789 and restarted their version of King's here. It is still around, now known as the University of King's College.

You might be right. The dates line-up. The forerunner of the Ivy League was a rowing league with the Ivy League schools as members formed in 1870. Cornell was founded in 1865.

The actual Ivy league was formed much later than I would have guessed in 1955. Before that, they had agreements between schools for different sports like football, cricket, basketball, etc that looked like single sport conferences. They mostly included the modern Ivy league schools occasionally leaving a couple out and adding other Northeast schools like Army.
