Wake Forest Demon Deacons
4 EFTON REID III P = 25, E = 80, I = 0, X = 10
25 TRE'VON SPILLERS P = 55, E = 5, I = 60, X = 55
8 TY-LAUR JOHNSON P = 5, E = 60, I = 85, X = 45
6 CAMERON HILDRETH P = 50, E = 10, I = 90, X = 70
23 HUNTER SALLIS P = 0, E = 40, I = 80, X = 40

Look-In: This Big Four Match-Up in the Tournament Quarterfinals is yet another do-or-die tilt. Bubble matters aside, Carolina must defeat the Demon Deacons today. The Tar Heels owe this good team of Baptists a beating, it is simple as that. Big Big Efton Reed III checks in at 7-0 and 250 pounds and scores at a 9 ppg clip while grabbing 6.5 rebounds a game. Even more active on the boards is 6-7 Tre’Von Spillers (9.9 ppg) who grabs 7.5 rebounds per game. Wake then goes to a three-guard line-up with 4-year dangerous Englishman Cam Hildreth (6-4, 14.9), Six-Foot Brooklynite Sophmore Ty-Laur Johnson (6 ppg, 3 apg), and the heart of all Deacon offense, 6-5 Nebraskan Hunter Sallis (18 ppg, 5 rpg). Salisbury’s Juke Harris is the most productive bench man (6-7, 6 ppg, 3 rpg). Wake Forest is the worst three point shooting team in the ACC. Hildreth has the best biorhythms on the squad. Deacon coach Steve Forbes is wily and has had some time to plot for this game. Expect a trick.

Frontcourt: Washington has the physical. Lubin is running on heart. Claude is ready. James Brown is pretty excited.

Wings: Jackson has a solid presence while Drake Powell is energized. Withers’ rhythms have changed little from Wednesday. Tyson is below the fold.

Guards: Positive shift for Cadeau toward smarts while the Physical and Emotional balance for Davis is a good one. Trimble is good to go physically.

Overall: The management of assignments will be something to watch today. Sallis is All-ACC and Hildreth a handful – that portends big defensive roles for Drake Powell and for Seth Trimble. Spillers has to be checked every second – he’s an animated body in the paint. Efton eats space. As per usual a good start is paramount for Carolina and defensive pressure is first and foremost. A lot of stats are close or off-setting about these two teams – as their season records indicate. This ought to be a knock-down Tobacco Road dirt clod fight. I’m not sure what anything other than guts has to do with this one. This one’s for the Alma Mater. Las Vegas says UNC by 5.5. Tighter say the Ritmos – Carolina by 4.

I’m always excited for a smart Cadeau.

Drake being energized seems like good news for our defense.

And Withers being like yesterday would be awesome.

Wake will force you into shooting a lot of 3s. UNC was 8-32 in the first game

Have to stay aggressive and force Reid/Spillers into fouling

Drake on Sallis will be fun to watch. No one else on this Wake team is scary

Forbes is an excellent coach, perhaps the best in the league. I’m wary of this match up just because of him. Wily is right. He can recruit too and has a knack for finding talent where others don’t look for it. He’ll be a beast moving forward in terms of re-stocking Wake via the portal. Forbes is the kind of guy who finds guys like Dalton Knecht from a place like Northeastern Junior College or Northern Colorado.
If you want to find a diamond in the rough, follow Forbes around and check out who he’s trailing.

Hopefully we get off to the same fast start, and the 3’s keep falling. If not, look for a repeat of the Dash game.

He’s kind of like the new Larrañaga in his caginess.

Withers is gonna launch a 3 within milliseconds of getting the ball.
