Adolescence

So this series got me thinking about how the parents of kids who do awful things like murder, mass shootings, rape, etc. deal with it. Like the parents of the kid who killed his brother and then went on the mass shooting in Raleigh a couple of years back. How do the parents move on from that?

I've not yet seen Adolescence, and will do so soon, but on your topic there is the fictional film Mass, which is about two sets of parents getting together to discuss the loss of their sons (one was a school shooter, the other a victim of that shooter). It's great, and emotionally devastating. I would say even though it's not very cinematic--as most of it takes place in one room--to me it's the single most underrated film of 2021.

I know the mother of one of the Columbine shooters wrote a book about dealing with the aftermath and even did some interviews about it.

The Home Depot episode was the last straw. I couldn't continue watching. I will never get that time back.

Mass is fantastic. Felt more like a play though, and probably would’ve done a lot better onstage.

Ahhh...so this is about the show Adolescence and not Trump lashing out on his shitty social media platform. My bad.

I really liked it - IMO, it is appropriately dark, realistic (especially the episode in the school where it shows how the kids actually behave), and thought-provoking, with some terrific performances.

Is that meant to be funny?
Not at all. My daughter watched the series and told my wife and I that we should watch it. We watched a little over one episode and then stopped. We decided to try watching a couple more.. and then we stopped again.

It's 4 episodes. The visit to the Wainwrights store is in the second half of the last episode. So, you watched the best, most compelling, thought provoking parts of the show, and the breakdown in the Wainwrights was all you could take?

15 minutes of nonsensical chatter during the drive the store isn't exactly compelling.

We only got to that episode because our daughter convinced us that it was going to get better. The storyline is very interesting. The way they drag the story out, often with just ridiculous filler, makes it unwatchable for us.

Not sure I would have watched it but for this thread but holy cow, that’s incredible television. It’s terrifying how much of that is happening every single day in schools across the western world. The kids are not ok, and while that’s always been true to an extent, it’s a particularly acute concern now.

Also, I can easily see how someone who lives in the most superficial layer of politics and society would not be moved by a show like that.

You missed the point.

You quit watching in the last episode of a 4 episode miniseries.

The overall series was very good. If anything they could have extended it to go deeper into some of the subjects.
