America's Reichstag fire??? (ICE, Nat’l Guard & Military in LA)

Yeah that last thing we need is a repeat of 2020 with the famous "fiery but mostly peaceful protests." There are a lot of peaceful protesters out there. There are also violent ones that need to be apprehended. The LAPD needs to be seen as being aggressive because if they are viewed as letting the protesters have their way then that will give Trump the angle he needs to replace them with the military.

I embedded the tweet as a source for the video, clearly I should have found one that didn’t include a text comment.

BS on the peaceful bit. Those were mostly a bunch of punks looking to destroy shit on Sunday.
Also, I don’t see how the LAPD would be “Donald Trump’s Gestapo.” But it does does look like they are using excessive force in the video.

Every cop dept is a Trump gestapo, at minimum figuratively. Additionally, the LAPD has a history of comical levels of corruption, incompetence, excessive force, and white supremacist gangs. Trump, miller, and vought may have focus on LA in large part because they know the LAPD is in the pocket.

Yeah, John Ganz's book When the Clock Broke is about 90s conservatism. It has a chapter with plenty of historical background on the LAPD.

Oh yeah. LAPD has a long, long history of excessive force. But I’ll cut them a little slack when they are getting cinder block chunks and fireworks launched at them all day. They are all likely on edge and ready to bust some heads. And then when they get their cop buddies egging them on, you get the same mob mentality on the law enforcement side, too.

Watching the event unfold for a while on CNN last night, what struck me was how many people surrounding the freeway protest were pretty clearly just looky-loos with phones out, seemingly there to entertain themselves or create content.

The folk down on the freeway were a hodgepodge of protester against ICE and as things wore on for Palestine, and they had a lot of people who seemed like anarchists there to fight the cops more than protesting for some moral outcome. I’m not criticizing protesting cops as a general matter, but the folks taking over the freeway seemed more bent on conflict, not positive change.

But in terms of numbers of participants and space covered, that protest appeared to be substantially smaller than many prior protests to riots that we’ve even in LA in my lifetime. Like nowhere near George Floyd marches, not even the same universe.

The folks throwing concrete and rocks off the overpass should be prosecuted as appropriate.

Unless they do Jan 6th style confessions on social media, may be tough to find them with the masks and hats they were all wearing.
