Finished the second episode (of two), it was overall really good. It came across as pretty honest and forthright to me, but who really knows. Amazing that he’s still alive, you can see how he got the nickname Charlie Machine.

A few buddies and I were at a casino in Tahoe one time and he walked by, we were all former baseball players and of course big “Major League” fans. We were in our 20’s at the time. One of my buddies said, “Wild Thing! I loved Major League!” And he smiled and said “Major League One, not Two right??” And we laughed and he actually came over and we started chatting about baseball, and he waved us toward the bar to join him. He ordered a greyhound and asked us what we wanted, so we said make it four and he picked up the round. He told us how he’d bought the Mookie Ball from the ‘86 World Series and had a bunch of baseball memorabilia, and was a huge Reds fan. And it turns out he was a pretty decent player, which you can tell by his swing in the documentary footage. So we swapped stories and talked for probably half hour.

He said he had to get going but wanted to play a spin of roulette first, so we walked with him over to the table and he spread what must’ve been a couple grand worth of chips around. All on red numbers, which we piggybacked with chips of much smaller denominations haha. The spin came up black, he flipped a $100 chip to the dealer and told us “See you boys later, GO REDS!”

Totally genuine dude, cool as hell. I’d long ago written him off but I’m to glad to see he seems to be in a better place, for now at least.
