Fewer Americans see GOP as better at protecting US, maintaining prosperity https://share.google/XRJ8UWV7pZBL2gXOC
It’s always apparent when they come into power and we suffer as a result, but unfortunately people’s memories are way too short. Once we get out of the mess, too many people forget what things were like and throw us right back into a mess once again.

Even if Democrats somehow win back control of Congress and the Presidency in 2026 and 2028 - a tall order to be sure - my fear is that all that will happen is that Fox News & other right-wing media will simply blame them for everything that goes wrong that was actually due to Trump 2.0's bullshit, too many voters will develop amnesia as they did under Biden, and in 2030 and 2032 the GOP will sweep back into power. Of course Democratic victories are vastly preferable to GOP ones, but we do seem caught in a vicious cycle over the past thirty or so years: Republican Presidents screw things up (the first President Bush, the second President Bush, Trump 1.0), a Democratic POTUS is elected and restores prosperity (Clinton, Obama, Biden), and then voters with ridiculously short memories turn right around and elect yet another Republican who screws the economy up again.

That is how the system works. The guy in office sucks. Vote for the other guy. The new guy in office sucks too. Let’s vote for the other, other guy.

Some interesting data in this summary -- https://www.economist.com/interactive/trump-approval-tracker

Most interesting to me:
  • Trump is DEEPLY underwater on all economic issues.
  • He's even negative now on immigration.
  • He's lost pretty much all his gains among Hispanic voters.
  • Only 3% of respondents (2% of Dems and 5% of Pubs) think crime is the most important issue.
Despite his gaslighting, Trump and Republicans are extremely vulnerable right now, assuming we're able to have free and fair elections. Between the extraordinary gerrymandering and the deployment of troops in blue areas, that's very much to be seen. But let's not be overly discouraged. A substantial majority of Americans are united against Trump and his agenda.

Sorry lawtig, those polls you see are fake polls. Trump's approval has never been higher.

“Assuming we have free and fair elections”

GQP is working hard to make sure they retain power as an extremely unpopular minority.

Liberal Democrats and folks like Bernie Sanders firmly believe the opposite, that trying to tack to the center was the Democrats’ electoral undoing.
That sounds like the bullshit claims of some Trumpers that if only Democrats would stop protecting LGBTQ people and leave them to their fate at the hands of conservatives and ignore obvious climate change then they might - might! - vote for a Democrat. Here's a hint - they still won't vote Democratic because the GOP always can and will outflank them from the right.

And for what it's worth it's not the Democrats who keep harping on LGTBQ issues, it's Republicans who keep bringing it up over and over, as they did with that notorious Trump ad against Kamala last year.
